Timeline

For the eastern states of the FSA the years around 1600 are in focus as first settlement. Why first the eastern states as ingerish colonies (and not Alormen?)? In the nearer western part already the castellanes colonies was established. If you set 1630 as start of castellanes colonies, why then the ingerisch ships schould sail a great bow around Archanta and settle in New Carnaby, Penquisset, Culpepper, Oakhill and around? Then it was easyer, self to set the feet in Alormen. No - the ingerisch did this not only for one reason: The castellanes were the first at the place and the ingerisch are not interested at a war.

Therefore it is important, to coordinate this colonisizing moves. The Castellan colony in the west must founded earlyer as the ingerish in the east of the FSA. If you take in mind, that the castellanes founded Latina 1488, then - let us say - 1540 or 1550 is a good time for founding castellanes colonies in Alormen and the near area. Dates of Colonization for the Southeast

Bringing this subject here from a conversation between me and Histor: Currently, Penquisset's first settlement is listed in at 1577; rather early compared to the founding of Stanton and the settlement of most of the southeast in the 17th century. Even earlier is Oakhill's first settlement at 1545. As a community, are we okay with these settlements as the first colonies on the East Coast?

If so, I think I'll put the founding of Kalm's colony in Arghenna around the date of Whalebury's founding to have the Ingerish and Kalmish competing. In my mind I always pictured Stanton and Dunchurch founded around the same time, with Stanton being the center of Ingerish control and Dunchurch (under a different name) being the center of Kalmish control. However I'd also be content with the Kalmish-Ingerish conflict happening while New Carnaby is just getting set up, if zytik and histor are attatched to their state's founding dates and the wider community thinks their dates are sensible.--Fluffr Nuttr (talk) 07:35, 28 June 2020 (CEST)

Era 3A Discussion

Independence War

Based on a conversation with some FSA stateowners on the FSA Discord, we came up with the following potential framework for the FSA's war of independence. The general theme, as first offered up by whateversusan, is that a group of eastern colonies decide to tar and feather their tax collectors and declare independence. There is already a very light military presence there because Ingerland is small and has tons of colonies in closer lands. The Ingerish crown finds out about this five months later as news would be really, really slow from that far away. The Ingerish king, in a panic, sends troops from the motherland. Half the squad gets lost in a storm, the rest arrive weary and sick, and General Huntington gives them the thrashing of a lifetime somewhere on the east coast. They limp home, and the king (or the parliament) decides South Archanta is more trouble than its worth.

Digging in further, the general tactics of the war would follow the Ingerish attempting to seize Stanton but being thwarted by General Huntington in Arghenna:

1. The depleted Ingerish fleet sails down the eastern seaboard, with occasional incursions and raids of port cities in the northeast on their way south. After taking over one of the smaller port cities in the north (Aerwinya?), the Ingerish formulate a plan to attack Stanton.
2. The Ingerish would send a relatively small contingent (15-25%) of their fleet further down the eastern seaboard, attempting to draw out FSA forces along the shores of Penquisset and the Delenshire Islands, passing through the St. Renecene Strait, sacking the city and attempting to approach Stanton from the sea from the southeast.
3. The main bulk of the Ingerish fleet would leave port later and instead would sail up the Rodham River as far inland as Hammond, attempting to take Stanton over land from the north, with the "decoy" fleet having drawn FSA forces to the south.
4. As the FSA forces see the Ingerish decoy fleet sailing towards the Delenshire Islands, General Huntington observes that the fleet is far smaller than would be expected, and orders troops throughout the colonies to be on alert for the primary attack elsewhere.
5. One of Huntington's naval units, in harbor at Dunchurch readying his ships, observes the Ingerish fleet sailing up the Rodham River. The Ingerish do not sail into Dunchurch and thus the admiral escapes detection, who then sends a runner to tell Huntington that the fleet is moving inland and to prepare for a land attack. The admiral understands that he cannot take on the Ingerish fleet without reinforcements, so rather than immediately engaging the Ingerish he instead blockades the river behind the Ingerish, cutting off any Ingerish retreat path or reinforcements from the decoy fleet.
6. As the Ingerish make landfall in Hammond and march south towards Stanton, Huntington's army ambushes the Ingerish forces near Plattesburgh. The Ingerish incur heavy losses and are forced to retreat.
7. The Ingerish fleet attempts to flee back to the open seas, but the Rodham River blockade holds strong. With the Ingerish fleet effectively kettled into the Rodham River valley, the Ingerish surrender at Franzhafen, ending the war and granting the FSA independence.

No need to worry about Aidlenaide's weird entry into the FSA, it's now under new management as the Delenshire Islands and it looks like it was one of the first states.

Also I'm thinking my state was first settled by Kalm in the 1590s and taken over by the Ingerish in the 1620s, but I'll have to talk with a few neighbors to see what works. Fluffr Nuttr (talk) 07:50, 25 May 2020 (CEST)

Indeed the Penquisset timeline goes very deep in the detail for an rought overlook. But indeed the changing of a greater colony in several smaller may be a good topic and also I like a first kalmish settlement (together with Zylanda?) and the ingerish occupation around the year 1590.

@ Penquisset: To have consistence in the whole OGF-world, we should not establish technical innovations, before they are in the real world - so 1791 may be changed to 1838 or so for the passenger rail, 1875 the tram-lines and 1895 for the electric rail line. If we do not so, in short time in the OGF-wiki we will have a run to the "earliest" this and that with may be absurde consequences. --Histor (talk) 20:51, 25 May 2020 (CEST)

In addition, I don't think that first settlements in the early days are a realistic place for pioneering technical innovations. So innovations during early industrialization/urbanization come from outside of the FS.--Mstr (talk) 21:16, 25 May 2020 (CEST)

I am not trying to make an earliest "this" or "that" with respect to rail. I am merely establishing it at a reasonable time compared to the OGF world's industrial era, as well as how long Penquisset had been settled at that point. The wiki-pages for the FSA do not stand alone in the OGF-world. So let us stay realistic. The "reasonable" progression of history is a dangerous thing - I like the imagination, that after the plays with the doors of temples somebody of the romans has some better ideas for steam-power and fast army-moving and build - let us say - 74 AD the first railway Rome, Appia Station to the port of Brindisi with the "non olet" money of Imperor Vespasian. May be with rails of wood. Yes - physically not impossible - but nonsens for other reasons.

So I always think, we shall avoid all this "pioneer-civilisation-steps" in our wikis and better stay some years behind the real devellopement. If the first set his rails to 1791 - the next day an other will say: "Hu! I see the Delenshire Islands as their own very old, but very separate colony. The Delenshire Islands would have been one of the first places Ingerish settlers would have encountered before sailing into Stanton Bay. Likely one of the very first settled in the southeast, pre-Culpepper and pre-Stanton. Whateversusan (talk) 01:17, 26 May 2020 (CEST)

Extremely unlikely from a military perspective. Most of DI is unprotected and exposed to enemies. The first true settlement by the Ingerish would undeniably be in the Stanton area due to its fortibility against invaders, rich river system for agrarian purposes, and shielding from storms for ships. For example, Plymouth MA was not the first place the pilgrims encountered, but rather one of many after several weeks of exploration around Cape Cod and even Long Island before deciding Plymouth was best protected due to its barrier island. --Zytik (talk) 03:53, 26 May 2020 (CEST)

Not sure what the issue here is. DI has plenty of sheltered locations, including the harbor at Holly Brook where the naval station is going to be. Delenham and Fleetwood also have barrier islands, and Saint Renecene has a natural deepwater sheltered harbor. And if not the actual first settlement, very early settlement is absolutely not ruled out. Also, the oldest European city in North America is St. Augustine, which is right on the ocean and not well protected. -- Whateversusan (talk) 04:10, 26 May 2020 (CEST)
