UL15h - Maslinavia

Noun Project Map icon 1463108.svgPhysical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

Climate - Maslinavia's climate is very similar to that of the Carpathians, as in mild winters, and plenty of rain during the spring that can supply the bountiful farmlands of Maslinavia.

Topography - Maslinavia's topography is also similar to the Carpathians near the Surian border, with high forest-covered mountains and hills covering much of the border, with only the west and eastern borders being flatter and way more adequate to farming. The centre of Maslinavia closely resembles Hungary's Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, because it is somewhat of a transition between to forested mountains of the south, and the Egalsko Lake to the North. The regions near the lake will closely mimic Hungary's Lake Balaton and its surrounding towns and countryside.

Invest - The Noun Project.svgHuman geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

The population of Maslinavia is very rural (most likely 60% rural), with most of the population coming from the countryside and the small villages that inhabit the landscape.

Maslinavia's cities will be small to medium sized, and even the capital city is quite small with only a population of around 300,000 (inspired by Ljubljana and Debrecen). Most of Maslinavia's main cities will have old towns in a baroque style, these cities would also have been home to tons of Khruschevkas.

The Demographics of Maslinavia will very mixed between three main cultures, Surian, Zalivnian, and whatever OGF's Hungarian is, with Zalivnian being just a little more dominant throughout Maslinavia.

Maslinavia would have developed economically like Czechoslovakia or Hungary during the cold war, with many economic policies being implemented that stunted Maslinavia's growth heavily and increased corruption in the government, a problem that would be solved during the 1980s with the re-implementation of the King and his royal family which brought western economic policies and funding from nations like Kalm, the FSA, and Franqueterre.

Maslinavia would have road networks that resemble that of Hungary, and with rail infrastructure that is lackluster in the rural regions, but the opposite in the cities.

Noun Project languages icon 105908 cc.svgHistory & culture
A brief description of the intended culture and language

Maslinavia's culture is inspired by a mix of Russian, Hungarian, and Serbian (mainly in Vojvodina).

Maslinavia was originally an independent kingdom, but that was until the Surians would invade and conquer Maslinavia for better access to the Egalsko in the north. Maslinavia would later become independent again during OGF's version of the Russian Revolution, and it would become a kingdom yet again until the Second World War when Maslinavia would become a socialist puppet state to Suria. During the 1980s, Maslinavia would undergo the Maslinavian Revolution, in which a newly independent kingdom would be re-established and the later reforms that were funded by the west would bolster the Maslinavian economy to being comparable to today's Austria.

Discussion for clarification & decision

  • Hello Juan&Don. This looks like an interesting application. I am currently structuring the linguistic and cultural structure of West Uletha as we speak, and although your application does more or less match the imagined cultural landscape in the area, I personally also need to think through it as it directly influences one of the territories I own myself. Notably, since the origin of the Hungarian culture is imagined to be in UL15f a bit to the east, implementing Hungarian would imply that the Hungarian influence was also notable in Zalivnia and Mallyore. This is not necessarily a bad thing but I need to discuss this privately with the users mapping in these territories. Other than that, the application is generally okay, but while I use some time to think the cultures, do you mind fixing the links above directing to your mapping? The numbered ones aren't directing me to the map, I'd like to see what you've mapped in those areas as well. Thanks in advance. ⸺ Bixelkoven (talk) (West Uletha Admin) 18:41, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Thank you for responding Bixelkoven! I do see your concerns, but I was thinking that Maslinavia’s Hungarian population could be inspired by the that of Romania’s Hungarian communities in Transylvania, or the historic German communities that dotted Eastern Europe in places like the Volga, Danube, and Galicia. I do though that maybe the Hungarian settlers possibly could have migrated through Zalivnia and Mallyore instead of settling there. And I will fix the links ⸺ Juan&don (talk) 19:41, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Thanks for fixing the links. After discussing privately with the fellow mappers of the affected areas, I'd highly suggest you to minimize the Hungarian influence, better yet remove it, Hungarian should stay in UL15f and its immediate proximity. The Serbian and Russian part is fine, on the other hand. May I suggest Bulgarian, or Macedonian? Those two languages are fitting for the territory and are a mix of Serbian and Russian in their own regard. Serbian+Russian is also fine, however since West Uletha is seeking new non-represented cultures, I welcome you to try out one of those two languages - if you want of course. On the other hand, despite your mapping being good, it's not matching the thematic. I think it would be best if you could map out a little town and some rural area around it in a blue territory. Preferably in the Central European/Eastern European/mix style which would fit the territory. It doesn't have to be too large, just detailed enough to show your capabilities, which I am sure you do have which I can see from your provided mapping. I am keeping this request on hold until you are happy to share what you've made. If you need any help with the mapping I am more than happy to provide tips. Happy mapping! ⸺ Bixelkoven (talk) (West Uletha Admin) 20:33, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Thank you for your response! I have chosen to abandon Hungarian and I will instead use Macedonian. I have also decided to map out a small town called Mračno [6] that would fit more into a Central European style that fits Maslinavia. Sincerely, Juan&don (talk) 22:06, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Apologies for the late response, I am in a festivity period, so my free time is limited. ⸺ Bixelkoven (talk) (West Uletha Admin) 19:50, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
    • I am very glad you accepted my suggestion to use Macedonian, it blends perfectly with the rest of the region. I am not a native speaker of Macedonian but my mother tongue is pretty similar, and as neighbor I am happy to help you from a linguistic perspective. Likewise, in order to get your mapping closer to the Central/Southeastern European theme that's imagined for the region, I highly suggest looking at the mapping of the neighboring countries in the Egalian region. Likewise, I suggest looking at real world mapping examples, such as: this, this and this (especially the first two). The buildings you made are very similar to the Hungarian-Vojvodina style, though you are free to implement some other and more varied central European and Balkan style urbanism. Welcome to the neighborhood! ⸺ Bixelkoven (talk) (West Uletha Admin) 19:50, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

Mapping is convincing enough. There's still room for improvement to make the style more similar to the imagined one, but you are on good track. ⸺ Bixelkoven (talk) (West Uletha Admin) 19:50, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
Reconsider the name 'Maslinavia', sounds a bit weird from a South Slavic perspective. More information above in my latest message.
