Jalayan (Jalayan: Bahasa Jalayan) is an Asperic language spoken in southern Archanta. The language is almost exclusively used in the Federal States state of Taviani with many dialects. Standard Jalayan, or Piawai Jalaya is the standard form with 92% of Jalayan speakers capable of speaking and/or understanding it despite many regional dialects co-existing alongside Standard Jalayan. The alphabet used for Jalayan is the Romantian alphabet.

Origin

The Jalayan language is believed to have originated near the coast of Tauhon when Asperic explorers went on a voyage across the Asperic Ocean. The explorers moved south and east, abandoning their settlements in Tauhon and made their first permanent settlement in Ramani. A form known as Proto-Jalayan was spoken in modern-day Taviani around 1500 BCE and is the ancestral language of all descending Jalayan languages and dialects. Its ancestor, Proto-Asperic, began to spread from the Gobrassanya peninsula at least by 2000 BCE as the result of Asperic people expansion into Maritime Archanta.

History

Standard Jalayan was directly influenced by Melayish and a minority of other Asperic Ulethan, and Uletarephian languages. The Jalayan language was the lingua franca of the Jalayan Kingdom (900–1701), the Bujarzha-Ramani Empire (1727-1790), and the Utarani State (1710-1790). Even after the fall of these ancient states that make up modern-day Taviani, Jalayan still exists as one of two official languages of the state. (the other being Ingerish)
