Recently, the Football World Cup took place, and until 2028 there will be no major global sporting event. I think that it would be interesting to create an Athletics World Cup (track and field specifically) to have more sporting competitions. I propose that it takes place every odd year so we have a different international sporting competition each year (Athletics WC-Pax Nova-AthleticsWC-FootballWC), as that would help for interest in sporting competitions not to die down. I also think that it would not be as mapping intensive as the other ones, so more medium-sized cities could participate. This link has my full proposal developed at length, but here I want to have a discussion regarding the need for the championship and to see if there is interest in it from other mappers.
