Laxland
Läxland is a country in north Uletha. It borders Silland to the east and UL12d to the west. Its capital and the largest city is Svedrona, which is consiered to be the largest Svennish population centre in the region. Läxland has a population of around 500 000, 65% of Läxians resides in urban areas. Paivat Lake makes up a large part of Läxland; the remaining parts are wetlands and forested archipelagos.
Läxland has been inhabited since prehistoric times, after the continental ice melted around 5500BCE. The inhabitants emerged as the ancient Paveses, who formed the ancient lake-faring people on the northern shore of Paivat Lake. Archaeological findings suggest that the ancient Pavese society declined mysteriously, with the latest Pavese artifacts on the Jungön island dating back to 100 BCE. Later, around 1100CE, the ancestors of present-day Läxians branched off from the Nordmenni population from the west, and began repopulating the shores of Paivat lakes. They formed their own animalist customs and traditions that persist to this day.
Etymology
The "Läx" part of Läxland is generally agreed to be derived from the ancient Svennish word "Læsa", meaning to pick or gather, hence the Läxian dialect of Svennish ord for the forager, "Läxere", likely referring to an ancient Läxian tribe that is uniquely known to fish and forage in excess and abstain from hunting larger animals.
Government
Läxland is one of the world's direct democracies, known for high taxes and welfare.
Constitutional framework
Läxland has five fundamental laws (Svennish: Läxlands fundamentala lagar) which together set out how the Läxian state is governed and protect core rights. These laws include: instrument of government (Regeringsinstrument), press freedom (Tryckfrihet), expression freedom (yttrandefrihet), national identity safeguard (Nationell identitet skydd), and nature protection (Naturskydd).
Economy
Läxland is a free-market economy.
Due to being small and landlocked, Läxland still heavily relies on imports. Since 2000's, the government heavily invested in the education sector, agriculture, and fisheries. It aims to boost exports, reduce reliance on other countries, and become more self-sufficient.
Transport
Aviation
From 1975 onwards, Svendronas International airport has become the largest regional aviation hub, catering to travellers from both Läxland and East Silland for both short-haul and long-haul flights. Since travellers from Silland constitute the majority of Läxian air travel, the Läxland government has greatly simplified immigration processing and connectivity for Silland travellers needing to travel by air from and towards Läxland. Jimmie-Svedrona has long been the most profitable route, with LAS (Läxland Aviation System) national carrier serving the two cities with 3 flights daily. LAS also serves catering, aircraft maintenance, and crew training services to many airlines within the region.
Demographics
Läxland has a highly homogenous population, with 95% ethnic Läxians, 3% to be ethnic minorities, and 2% to be mixed, foreigners and immigrants. Due to its size and population, Läxland has one of the toughest immigration polices.
Culture
Despite being criticized for being conservative, Läxland is one of the West's leaders in gender equality and sexual rights. These rights stem from Läxian animalistic beliefs of spirits, sin, and incarnation. Specifically, the ancient belief of a "kvilligå", feminine spirit or "manligå", masculine spirit that is reincarnated in the wrong bodily gender due to sin. This belief has shaped the acceptance of different sexual orientations and the idea of gender equality, where people share societal obligations based on one's spiritual and bodily gender.
Under the national identity safeguard laws that were legislated in the 1910s, the government promotes the protection of national identity, traditional culture, and customs. Ancient Nordmennic texts are used at religious sites, many traditional art and handicrafts schools are open, people are encouraged to go to temples and give offerings to spritial entities. Not only is the Läxian majority culture safeguarded, other minorities group within Läxland's border also enjoy the same benefits such as the Surhain village, where its inhabitants are historically from Suuleå, or Öösö village where the World's last population of ancient Suuleå tribe live.
Spiritual and religious beliefs
Åtro, also called Gåtro, is a traditional animalist belief system practiced by ethnic Läxians. Åtro is the central part of Läxian society and landscape. It teaches that the world consists of spiritual beings (“å”) and bodily beings (“levar”). Bodily beings—such as humans, animals, forests, and rocks—are composed of three fundamental elements: himlefar (air), vat (water), and bras (fire). These elements naturally combine and evolve. The core teaching mentioned that death may occur naturally due to elemental instability or unnaturally as a result of sins or wandering spirits, causing illness. Spiritual beings generally outlive bodily beings. Their continuation depends on whether they choose to remain in the spiritual world, reincarnate into a new body, or obliterate themselves. Both spiritual and bodily beings possess genders, which are considered fundamental to existence.
Believers often visit temples to offer gifts and seek protection from important spiritual beings. They seek balance in life and respect for nature.
