Hello! These ideas are interesting but I am no admin so i have no say in that but what I do have to say is that if you have some programming knowledge and a spare pc to use as either a web server or just local for you to mess on you cam make your own OpenGeofiction! I attempted a while back on a local server but due to its limited ram (900mb) it could not do one of the steps in setting it up. If you are interested Luciano made a wiki article about setting up a server to run OGF's software [https://wiki.rent-a-planet.com/w/index.php/HRATE here].
Because I lack good knowledge in the command line for Linux I just asked ChatGPT to and it gave working steps until my machine could not do it.
Hope this helps! [[User:MiniMapper|MiniMapper]] ([[User talk:MiniMapper|talk]]) 01:01, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

ForumsGlobal and regional issues → Request help or feedback/Potential OGF Sister Project Idea

Hello! It has been quite a while since I was away, but I have been thinking of this and thought to share this to view the opinions you guys have. Now this is a basic starting idea of a new sister project I have in mind, so it is all going to be basic, but still able to be understandable.

Why am I doing this? Well OpenGeoFiction has been going on for more than a decade! So I was surprised when I first learned that, as usually these projects die out within 5 years, plus I do see benefits in having a sister project, I do know this is highly unlikely, but worth a shot!

Starting It: Now my idea is to get the world planned out, and view each others ideas, this can help get some ideas as what the idea of this new world will be, mainly the topography, continents, rivers, lakes, oceans, all of the basics, and I recommend setting up a wiki as a way to do this as it is where most of the world builders will be, and once its done you can submit what basic form of territory you want while the territories are set up, for example, if you want a territory based off Scotland, you will likely get it, but incase someone else wants it and if you are unable to get said territory due to the amount of people wanting it, you will get 2 other alternatives.

Naming: Now when everything needs naming, I recommend waiting, as getting a basic idea of the history of your territory could help, no matter if it's your territory, your country (if your territory is a subdivision), or your continent, so again, that will be something that needs to be talked about.

Mapping: Now when it is time to map, I have an idea that seems to help both getting in new mappers and keeping it realistic, every 2 weeks each territory should get a look at (if it hasn't been looked at already), and if there is a massive amount of anything that can be said as unrealistic, they get a warning, there will be a maximum of 3 warnings before you are told to temporarily halt and know some helpful techniques to help make realistic mapping, if they get another 3 warnings, they will lose their territory and sent to the beginner one. So what if they make improvements during a warning? Well of they have made at least some progress in fixing, they only get stuck at how many warnings they have until they have fix it all or they reach their 3rd.

Benefits and Drawbacks: Benefits: -It can help get new people into mapping. -It gives people a chance to put in major changes in a world. (Something that isn't really possible now) -It gives people new ideas for how such a world would be. (Similar to the one right above) -People who had quit may return with a new project. Deawbacks: -It would take a while for such a project to get started. -It may temporarily lower progress on the current OpenGeoFiction.

Important Note: The current project (OpenGeoFiction) can continue alongside this new idea I have in mind, so if someone would like to view and contribute to the original, they can, plus it keeps OHF's history alive and everything made isn't lost.

(I know this isn't likely to get accepted, HECK! It probably won't even be considered! I am mainly doing this as to try and do the best I can to help the community)
