AN144, Caruba and the Sardines (Republic of)

Caruba is the mainland island in the country. Inspired by Jamaica and other Caribbean islands, it is mountaineous in the centre and flatter around the coast. The island is densely forested, primarily moist forest which is found theoughout the island. Agriculture on Caruba is limited to large farms which are well regulated by the government. Despite this, Caruba relies on food imports to stay alive.

The Sardines (being all of the smaller islands) are similar in geography, on a smaller scale.

Human Geography

The country in total has a population of around 4.3 Million. About 800,000 of these people live in the capital city of Port Nesoi (Nesoi being the Greek godesses of ialands) Outside of Port Nesoi, the two other cities include: Kingsboro, and Damia (on one of the Sardines). Smaller towns and villages are scattered throughout, mostly along the coast. Caruba gets lots of tourists every year, who come to see the beautiful beaches and colourful towns. Foreign investors have built resorts across the country but in recent years the government has been denying them construction as they interfere with the lives of the locals. The other main source of income for Caruba is its usage as a tax haven for lots of Antarefia (hoping to collaborate with others on the inclusion of some global companies on Caruba) which resulted in an economic boom in the '90s that is still being felt today. Suddenly, the country went from an impiverished island to a bustling economy. Construction is constant, and the Highway Commision has been developing better roads across the country.

Railway transport only exists in Port Nesoi with the Port Nesoi Metro. Otherwise, much of the population relies on car or the well connected bus network. A series of ferries connect Caruba and the Sardines.

Administratively Caruba and the Sardines each have their own Municipal Governments, officially the Sardine Republic and the Island of Caruba. Lower down, these municipalities are divided into Counties.

History and Culture

Caruba and the Sardines have different cultures as they were colonised by different countries. The Sardines speak a version of Romantish and follow Catholicism while Caruba speaks mainly Ingerish (a local dialect of course) and follows Protestantism. ~early 1800s the two colonies joined forces in a revolution for independence and after a long war finally achieved it. They were united as one country, Princetopia (the colonial name for the region) until 1928 when the name was officially changed.

I have been mapping in BG36: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=10/16.1059/-107.4477&layers=B for a while now using JOSM and the further east you go the more recent the mapping is. The mainland regions are based on Ireland however this island to the north: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=12/16.2284/-107.5331&layers=B is relevant to this territory application as it is based loosely on Jamaica. An example of my urban mapping can be found in Oliver City and an example of my rural mapping can be found in the countryside and in the forests and mountains where I have detailed some tourist destinations inspired by Co.
