An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. With the exception of Beginner territories, you should always create a sketch map to illustrate & explain your plans. You can add a link to this (hosted on imgBB, Postimages or similar, but not imgur.com)

Climate

Vesalija has a temperate climate with mild weather towards coast and more extreme inlands.

Landscape and nature

The country is inspired by Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland. The mapping is similar to what is already found in neighboring countries like Saave, Lany, Geklinia-Dregolesia (and the owners of these countries are all the owners of Vesalija).

Vesalija is mostly flat and has little forestation near the big cities of Valdīga, Lielkalne and Krienupe. Forest can be found in the mountains near the border of Lany and in the hilly parts near the border of Saave. Much of the forestation can also be found in the southern high plains. The tree species throughout the countryside is predominantly pine, but bigger cities like to grow pine and maple. There is very little swampland, the most significant bit can be found in the northernmost part of the Savian border.

River Balga is the most significant in the country as it begins from the lake Polnova and ends in Great North sea. Little less than half of the river is the bordering with UL14f and after that it passes through 2 major cities: Lielkalne and Valdīga. The river reaches the max width of 450 m near Valdīga.

Demographics

The population of Vesalija (Vesalia in English) is roughly 10.5 million people, where 8 million people are Vesalians (Vesalių in the native language). The second biggest nationality is Lanians, located mostly in the capital city and near the border of Lany. The third biggest nationality is Zamednovchians, located in the surroundings of Krasnava. Both minorities are well adapted to the society of Vesalija, but have also remain faithful to their native countries' language and customs.

The HDI of Vesalija is 0.852 and GDP per capita is 23 200 USD.

Cities

Valdīga - the capital city of Vesalija, home to 1.1 million peaople, is popular for its old town and annual festivities. Much of the country's wealth is generated here, most notably with electrical equipment, which is produced in industrial districts in close perimeter of Valdīga. Outside the old town, Valdīga has a diverse set of architecture, but most importantly there are wooden 2-story apartment buildings and social housing of the 60s-70s.

Krienupe and Lielkalne have also majority 2-story apartment buildings and social housing of the 60s-70s, but also much significant number of private housing than in Valdīga. Krasnava on the other hand is mostly private homes or modern apartment buildings due to its vacation city status. Krienupe has also an extensive old town like Valdīga.

Population of the bigger 4 cities:

Valdīga - 1 100 000

Krienupe - 450 000

Lielkalne - 400 000

Krasnava - 290 000

Infrastucture

The major cities are mostly connected by 2+2 highways, accompanied by 2+2 and 2+1 expressways in further streches. The condition of the roads in between cities are mostly great as they are mostly newly built. On the other hand secondary roads and high traffic roads in the middle of major cities are older and require more extensive maintenance. The railway network is fairly extensive and supports high-speed trains (except the strech from Valdīga to Saave).

A brief description of the intended culture and language

Language

The state language of Vesalija is Vesalian ("Vesalių kelsas" in the native language). The language is similar to Latvian and a little bit to Lithuanian. Vesalian uses special characters from both Latvian (ā, ē, ī, ū, č, š, ž, ģ, ķ, ļ and ņ) and Lithuanian (ų).

Vesalian has very little regional dilects, as people have adapted to the main language, but one notable has remained. Linova ("Linų kelsas" in the native language) is a dilalect that is spoken around Polnova lake and has a strong slavic influence. Due to its isolation, it has remained healthy enough, with native speakers of approx. 300 000 people, out of which 230 000 live in Vesalija.

History

(not enough external info to describe older history)

After The Great War, Vesalija became a conservative authoritarian country, governed by Artjoms Krūmiņš, who governed the country until his death in 1965. After that, many of the repressed institutions started to protest for the democracy. It took 5 years and 22 exchanges of prime ministers, to finally get democratic in 1970 after the resignation of Leonīds Ozolnieks. Since then, the country has steadily improved, but still faces major political instability with sprawling corruption.
