ForumsTerritory application → Territory application/UL06a - Kardox

Please fill in the information below to make a territory request.
Territory ID and proposed name
The Territory ID (from OpenGeofiction:Territories, e.g. AR123a) and proposed name of the country

UL06a (if possible incl. UL06b) -- Kardox

Physical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. With the exception of Beginner territories, you should always create a sketch map to illustrate & explain your plans. You can add a link to this (hosted on imgBB, Postimages or similar, but not imgur.com)

The area is located approx. on the same latitude as Anatolia and the Caucasus, which will make the area similar in terms of geography. The west and the south are temperate and more humid due to the a pump of warm water from the south gulf (similar to the Pontus region) Avg. winter temp. approx -5 to 5 C, avg. summer temp. 20-25 degrees C, coastal climate. The middle part of the country which is sandwiched by two parallel mountain ranges is mostly arid and shrubbish with some creeks flowing from the mountain (Zagros mountain). Avg. winter temp approx. -10 to 5 degrees C, summer temp. 25-30 degrees C. The eastern and northern part of the country is drier, sunny and mediterranean (Italy, Greece). Avg. winter temp. 0-5 degrees C, avg. summer temp around 30.

Human geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Realistically about 10 million people in the country (similar size to Azerbaijan). Most people along the coast and close to waters, less people in the center.

Economic development stable. Less urbanization compared to IRL West, more similar to Mideast countries. Land occupation high along the coast and waters with towns and cities and agriculture (olives, grapes, wheat etc.). Agriculture also in the mountainous middle region.

History & culture
A brief description of the intended culture and language

Kardic language (Kurdish), Kurdish culture. Minority of Turkish (Turquese) and perhaps Persian/Caucasian/Indian.

It's good to represent cultures that have not been guaranteed official status IRL.

Past mapping
To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful.
The {{coord}}, {{node}}, {{relation}} or {{scalehelper}} templates can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - they result in nicely formatted links. Or you can paste in a URL.

The area itself is mapped by me some time ago including UL06b, which is why it would be ideal for it to return to me. I look for merging the two together. I've also done a bit in UL06c.

Midesapa: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=9/-41.6548/146.2802&layers=5 I will not take credit for the current mapping but I still have few remnants of what I used to do here.

  • Good to see you back in the region. I think the plan doesn't differ that much from what you laid on the map few years ago... I would also like to support merging UL06a and UL06b into one territory. Separation doesn't make a lot of sense with current geography and I feel like whoever would like to claim UL06b any time later, would have very little to say about natural features and national infrastructure in that territory when both Demirhan and UL06a are claimed. • Welcome back ruler! I hope you don't mind if I make some comments. Firstly, as the OGF project as a whole is in a more mature phase now, a phase where we've been eliminating old low quality names like 'Franquese' and 'Ingerish', I don't think we should be introducing any such names back into the project. Kardox is Kurdish for ancient Kurdistan, whereas Kardic is derivative of Kurdic. I think it'd be nice to take a more creative approach to naming things. Thanks, and I hope you don't take offense at this comment. --IiEarth (talk) 22:04, 12 September 2025 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the positive comments. Just a point, Li Earth, Kardox is not a name for ancient Kurdistan proper but a historical variant name of the historical region Corduene which is a smaller region within Kurdistan. I named it Kardox because I think there’s originality in having a valuable yet not well-known name of a region associated with Kurds. It perhaps would be unoriginal if I named the region “Botan” which is representantive of Kurdistan proper and well-known by even non-Kurds. But I’m open for revision. • Hi, Theruler, once again. I have two things to mention. First, less pivotal: I agree with iiEarth that the names can be more creative. I am not going to dwelve into whether the name Kardox is uncreative itself, but let's say that the fact that it's a real historical region connected to the Kurdish culture is a sign that you probably can create a better name. Same goes for Kardic, no need to base the term on the real world word, therefore I'd highly suggest you make a more creative name, I know you can. Secondly, Alessa and me believe it would be better if you started with a smaller area than what is UL06a, despite the fact that you owned it before. The area we were thinking is this region + some smaller neighboring administrative regions as well. UL06b would be included, totaling to about a 1/3 of what you are requesting. We acknowledge your past commitment and activity in various parts of our OGF world but that is what we believe the same reason we are proposing this. We think working on a smaller area (but not as small as UL06b) will enhance your commitment. You had your previous territories withdrawn for inactivity on multiple occassion, so we'd like to be assured you will be committed to this project as much as you can and wish to be. Delivering with activity will easily yield a chance to get the remaining area. Thoughts? ── Bixelkoven (talk) (West Uletha Admin) 23:33, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
  • I understand that I've had high inactivity levels, but I would appreciate if I had the chance to start lay out my geographic plans more easily, as geography is crucial for realism and city planning. If you wish to see commitment on a smaller piece of territory, I would have nothing against it. But is it necessary to create a smaller country in order to do so? If it is fine with you, we could perhaps combine the two territories (so that we won't need problems with the border relations) and distinguish the outlined area from the rest of the territory (as a region). You could then check up on my progress in the region you outlined and if everything checks out, I can continue my work on the rest of the country. I can manage using JOSM to do the regions. "Zozandarî" could be a viable alternative name with a fictive language name of Zozandarian. Theruler (talk) 23:57, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
