* I do believe the island shape was going to be reworked by admin for more realistic geography before it being assigned so there's a chance the shape may change- wanted to give a heads up on that.
* On Discord you mentioned a population of about 750k-1 million (or 1.75 million, wasn't sure from the order you put it in)- this seems realistic to me. As mapped AN100 is about the size of [https://wiki.opengeofiction.net/util/map_scale.html?map=C/9.331461339425719/-24.50332/36.04423&map2=OSM/x/18.21136/-66.45859&pxpt=0.2767&scale=799104 Puerto Rico], which has a population of about 3 million. Without having a metro as big as San Juan I could definitely see that population fitting.
* I'm not sure with the village layout and that population that there's any realistic path to limiting car transport nearly as completely as you're suggesting unfortunately. There's definitely a path for limiting highways and having parts of cities be pedestrianized, and trains being the preferred connection, but would be harder to limit car transport entirely and/or justify mass rail for something that size. So far looking it seems like [https://wiki.opengeofiction.net/util/map_scale.html?map=C/10.331461339425719/-24.50382/36.04423&map2=OSM/x/39.60593/2.90750&pxpt=0.2767&scale=399552 Mallorca] off the Spain coast might be the closest I've found- it's smaller than AN100 and does have some local trains in Palma and a couple longer routes. The thing is that even there you see the car infrastructure is kind of the default, even with the train seeming like a popular and well-connected option. And the less you have of defined larger cities or populated corridors the harder it'll be to justify local rail (at least for passengers).
* Your indigenous population and overall culture works super well with my plans for Jhuandan, which historically would have been the trading hub and center of the Budrian (indigenous east coast Freedemians) civilization. The idea was that there would have been a lot of sea trading and connections into/out of Jhuandan from surrounding places like Menaro, and it sounds like Menaro would have potentially been the main trading partner before colonization. If you're granted the territory I'd be happy to work with you on what our historic trade and possible native population/culture overlap might look like.
* It would be nice to see a little bit more natural mapping in your examples since that will almost certainly be important for an island the size of AN100. But this may be something that's more of a "get the territory, then make sure you don't forget the natural mapping part".

The image contains the approximate topography of the island, with every red line representing aproximately 500m in altitude. Most of the island, specially below 700m~, has the tropical savannah aw/as climate, while the highlands being humid subtropical (cfa/cwa) and some major mountain peaks reaching subtropical highland climate or cwb, the eastern coast is the hilliest part of the territory with many islands as well, while the west side of the country is much more flat

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

The population is half rural and half urban, there is no major cities, but rather, an integrated network of small towns, the population is more urban and more dense in both the extreme north and the southern valleys, while the interior is mostly made of small dense villages spread everywhere however, the west-central coast, given to the poor soil conditions, has the lowest population density both rural and urban, except for a couple of cities with commerce being its overwhelming economic activity given its closeness to the city of Jhuandan.

The extreme north is well industrialized and has the most infrastructure overall, with manufacture and commerce being their main activities. The southern valley towns focus more on agriculture and services, with most communication coming from this place

The capital is a small city in the highlands,

Tourism

In general, Towns are compact and densely populated, infrastructure in this nation as well orbits more in public, communitarian transport rather than individual, except for certain regions in the extreme north and the west coast, for which roads are mostly used for heavy machinery and cargo, while human transport is mostly made of several types of tramways and small trains, along with busses, this makes the nation have a relatively low proportion of roads and a high of railways and

A brief description of the intended culture and language

Tribes of the minaro island have long came from the different background of reedemia, arthemia, and antharepia in general, for the most part, different tribes of different regions settled on the east coast for their marine resources and the south coast for its fertility in agriculture, the inner side would later be populated with agriculture as well, given the differences in languages, given the lack of hostility and dependency on trade, certain tribes started modifying their language to ease trade and gain influence, it is not known how, but in that way the culture and language of the island was born, with militant outliers being either expelled or isolated in some way or another, despite all of this, dialects still vary heavily throrough the island

The southern valley would export agriculture and early manufacture, the innerlands would grow animals and make timber, and the east coast would export marine resources, some mining resources, along with containing commerce hubs

The hierarchy was mostly removed around 600 ac, where power would be decentralized, leaders of several villages would form a

From 100 bc to around 1300 ac, the island developed stability and had casual commerce with externals until after 1300ac expeditions by outside forces would be increasingly common, including latina, free redeemia and "european" nations, as well as neighboring islands

These outside forces would settle mostly on the west coast for marine resources as well as good harbors, the displacement of eastern menaro people led to all of the tribes of the island to form a coalition against the outsiders, which also let the outsiders to create several forts on the east coast, this coalition led to a more centralized power on the center of the island, this is when the modern capital would be created, it was a type of federation of valleys with a capital, for simplicity we will call it menaro

Given the mountains of the east coast, outsiders could do not more than dominate trade, since as long as they entered the inside they were defeated

During 1600 ac, certain colonists started going for the southern valleys in order to cultivate cash crops, this along with the invention of gunpowder would mean the defeat of menaro with respect to western coast and south valleys, menaro people in the south valleys would then migrate to the innerlands

around 1700ac many small ports would be created along the west coast, some missionaries would as well try to spread catholicism, in which they suceeded, the agricultural center would shift, with menaro people copying several colonial crop methods and using it to their way,

given the decay of marine products during the 1750, the east coast got underfunded, for which the menaro took over easily, they regained control and started using "alphabet" writing for their language,

around 1800, they would also start trading weapons from outer enemies of the colonists to expell them in a future occassion

around 1830, colonists of the southern villages would go full on to plan to conquer the entire island, however as lack of funds reached their limit they could not advance much, not only that but they could fully retaliate

circa 1840 and the southern valley was recovered, all that was left was the several forts and port cities, however, they were left in peace as they brought many important goods and knowledge, they were allowed to move from their towns and fund schools and colleges, the trade of prime matter in exchange of intellectual knowledge would sparkle a innovative era in the island, nationalist ideals would also bring the idea of a formal government

It was until the 1850's when discussions between all cities and villages concluded to the formation of the menaro federation with a constitution, laws and presidents, in the first elections, only city and village leaders could vote, with each city and village having different weight based on population

The first president would be "name"

several coal mines would be found in the east coast, impulsing the interest for the creation of a railway

from 1850 to 1890 the nation would have a golden era of innovation and infrastructure, with the first railway being finished in 1870, one of the earliest ones in the area

Many schools and universities were built with cooperation of "europeans" and village leaders, they brought the "european" language to menaro people

The port cities would still be the wealthiest areas, people in these cities were mostly bilingual, the language of the nation they were originated and the menaro language

in the 1870's the first volunteer building organizations have opened, they cared about maintenance, machinery and construction and were opened as a way for the young and youth to learn about structures and machinery in general

Interracial marriage was always a controversy in port cities, however, during the 1890's, it sprinkled skirmishes on several port cities and in some villages, some "europeans' thought menaro were "smarter than most indians but not to our level", while some menaro thought "europeans" had "unmoral and unpure" spirits

In order to fix the problem, the 5th president of the federation decided to make interracial laws be decided by city/villages, in general they decentralized the government a little bit more

in 1880's iron deposits and more resources would be discovered on the once sparce extreme north, several companies and village sectors would then invest in the place to generate nation-made steel for construction

in 1890 woman got allowed to be village/city leaders in a federal level

in 1894 the first electric grids started being built mostly in factories

by 1900's, trains replaced donkeys and carts as the main cargo method, and was close to be the 1st in transportation

around 1901 a rubber plantation promised to make the nation more industrialized but it failed, the rests of the plantation are now a historic park

around 1905 the federation would pass from being subdivided by cities and villages to be subdivided by regions, each village and city decided to be part of said region.

around 1912 a small war against "european" would happen, minaro proved for the first time to have a decent navy enough to protect itself

in the 1920's, workers unions and strikes would increase leading to socialist movements taking over the country,

in the 1930's the first telegrams would be built

in 1935 several ammends with guvermental and worker unions, including village leaders led to the formation of a new constitution that made the nation left leaning compared to their neighbors, this resulted in trade to suffer and higher life quality

in 1940 mass construction of water grid would take place, along with the expansion of electric grids on rural areas

in 1950 interracial marriage would be banned in all the federation

in 1953 virtually everyone used public transport unleast once a week

in 1955, weighted vote was aproved, considering both men and women as equal, with people with intellectual disabilities be forbiden for voting and people with higher intellectual and bigger responsibilities having more weight on their vote.

in 1957, reactionary conservatives supremacists rose on the southwest coast, the military of the nation involved for this reason

anti discrimination laws appeared in a federal level in 1960

in the 1960's several dams were built, ever since then its been the nation main source of energy

in 1963 menaro grew a musical scene of a mix of bossa nova and jazz with traditional menaro influence, called sonomore, ever since then its considered the most representative music of the nation

in 1975 a rare-earth mine gave a small bonus of money to the nation

in 1975 homosexuality was considered legal, making menaro ahead of most nations

in 1980 weighted vote urged to be replaced by universal vote, but it lost

in 1990 the first computers arrived to menaro,

Culture of Menaro:

Modern menaro culture is a mix of traditional values and progressivism, for instance, discipline and self control are aspired, while caring a lot about unchangeable things are seen as bad, while religion and community is very important, generally people, rural or urban are accepting of different background and sexualities, dialects vary a lot, specially in the area between the southern coast and the highland-interior

Menaro people are traditionally a collectivist culture,

the two most played sports are soccer and basketball by far

the most listened genres are sonomore and hip hop

Discussion for clarification & decision

As your potential neighbor I'm overall excited about your application- there's a lot that fits very well with Freedemia and intended lore, and your urban mapping is good. I do have a couple thoughts-

  • I do believe the island shape was going to be reworked by admin for more realistic geography before it being assigned so there's a chance the shape may change- wanted to give a heads up on that.
  • On Discord you mentioned a population of about 750k-1 million (or 1.75 million, wasn't sure from the order you put it in)- this seems realistic to me. As mapped AN100 is about the size of Puerto Rico, which has a population of about 3 million. Without having a metro as big as San Juan I could definitely see that population fitting.
  • I'm not sure with the village layout and that population that there's any realistic path to limiting car transport nearly as completely as you're suggesting unfortunately. There's definitely a path for limiting highways and having parts of cities be pedestrianized, and trains being the preferred connection, but would be harder to limit car transport entirely and/or justify mass rail for something that size. So far looking it seems like Mallorca off the Spain coast might be the closest I've found- it's smaller than AN100 and does have some local trains in Palma and a couple longer routes. If you're granted the territory I'd be happy to work with you on what our historic trade and possible native population/culture overlap might look like.
  • It would be nice to see a little bit more natural mapping in your examples since that will almost certainly be important for an island the size of AN100. But this may be something that's more of a "get the territory, then make sure you don't forget the natural mapping part".
