TA234, TA235 - Sahritania

Noun Project Map icon 1463108.svgPhysical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

Sahritania is inspired by a mix of places, such as South Africa, Senegal, Mauritania, Australia, and the United States.

And also to make it clear, I only want the northern part of TA235, the part with a border with TA234.

Topography - Sahritania can be divided into three regions, all fairly diverse.

Region 1 (Eastern Coast) - driest part of Sahritania, home to scrubland and bushland covering a majority of the coast and the northern coast as well. Most of the cities will be coastal in this region.
Region 2 (Western Coast & bay) - this is the an area inspired by the hills of Eastern Australia, and Southern Mauritania/Northern Senegal. The heavily forested bay is the most populous of all the regions, and holds the most major cities, including the capital. This area is also very fertile.
Region 3 (Southern Sahritania) - the most densely forested area in all of Sahritania. This would be the ‘breadbasket of Sahritania’ as the majority of Sahritania’s fertile land is found here. This region is also fairly populated and is also home to a lot of wetlands along the coast that are inspired by The Gambia/Senegal. The south is also home to the most native peoples which are Berbers and other Native Tarephians.

Landscape - The landscape of Sahritania is fairly homogeneous, at least for the most part. The north is fairly dry with scrublands covering massive distances with some lakes in the north providing pockets of forests. The Sahritanian west and south is covered in forests, hills, and mountains that dominate their landscapes.

Invest - The Noun Project.svgHuman geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Demographics - Sahritania has two major people groups, the whites, and the berbers. The whites are of Ingerish and Franquese descent. Sahritania’s other major people group, is the native berber population that live mainly in the east of Sahritania.

Religion - Sahritania is a majority Christian, with the two largest denominations being Protestant, and Roman Catholic.

Economic development - Sahritania’s economy is very prosperous as there are four main things that the economy of Sahritania comes from: Agriculture, arms production, vehicle production, and minerals like coal, copper, silver, and gold.

Infrastructure - sahritania has an extensive road and train network. Sahritania is also used as a major hub connecting Western Tarephia to West Ulethia, so there are also large ports as well along both the western and eastern coasts. Tarephian highways run only through certain areas of Sahritania because of the lengthy civil war that had only just ended in 2018.

Mapping style - my mapping style for Sahritania is based upon a mix of the US, Australia, The Gambia, Senegal, and Mauritania.

Cities - Sahritania has really distinct cities from the rest of Tarephia. Sahritania’s capital, Monarch, was designed by the same person who had designed OGF’s paris (basically like Haussmann’s paris with large boulevards.)

Political divisions - Sahritania is divided into states, and each state has a capital city. In each state, there are multiple departments. Departments are made of counties, and those counties are made up of either two different things. On the west coast of Sahritania, they are called Parishes, and on the east coast of Sahritania, they are cantons.

Politics - sahritania is a constitutional monarchy and has a legislature called the senate.

A brief description of the intended culture and language

History - Sahritania had always been inhabited and the peninsula (or island?) that Sahritania sits on is called the Cape of Good Passage. This peninsula was first inhabited by the berbers who in the 1400s and 1500s began trading with the Franquese on the east coast. This coast was then named the ‘spice coast of Tarephia’ as the berbers would gather spices from all over Tarephia and sell and trade them for West Ulethian goods such as guns and other manufactured goods. The Sahritania berbers would found the trading kingdom of Sahria on the east coast, this is where the country’s name comes from today. In 1723, the Franquese would establish their first colony in the region and the colony was called Sahritanie. This colony was used to control the trade of spices along the western coast of Tarephia. In 1734, Franqueterre would conquer the berber kingdom of Sahria and they would dominate in the region. In the 1760s, the Ingerish would finally arrive in Sahritania and they conquered the Franquese colony of Sahritanie and created the colony of Sahritania for the Ingerish. This colony would generally do the same as the Franquesian one, which is trading spices to the rest of Ulethia. In 1828, Sahritania would declare independence and fight a revolution against the Ingerish who were raising taxes and enforcing more labour upon the peoples of Sahritania. Sahritania would become a republic led by Andre Grenés. Grenés would later create a monarchy in Sahritania, which still rules to this day. In 1845 a civil war broke out in Sahritania against the Berbers and the eastern whites of Sahritania, and the western and southern whites who had the majority of the power. This warnwould last until 1998, lasting a whole 153 years until a ceasefire was signed. This war would become the one of longest lasting and deadliest wars in history and the longest war in tarephian history. In 1998, as a result of this war, Sahritania had become a constitutional monarchy with a senate to give the peoples equal representation in Sahritania.

Culture - Sahritania has an Ingerish culture with Franquese having lost its importance in the region. Sahritania also has a berber population with a distinct culture, but the majority of berbers have either moved to neighboring northern territories, or have died during the civil war. Sahritania also had developed a distinct accent that would mirror that of the South African accent and spelling of many words have changed, but remain very similar to the Ingerish found in the FSA or Ingerland. Sahritania also has a large Irish diaspora that have migrated away from the Ingerish for job opportunities in Sahritania.
