Noun Project Signature icon 619326 cc.svgTerritory ID and proposed name
The Territory ID (from OpenGeofiction:Territories, e.g. AR123a) and proposed name of the country

UL33g --- proposed name for territory is Nukaravu, literally meaning "archipelago of palms" in Nukuravese Maori, an Austronesian conlang on which I am currently working (I have lots of conlanging experience, dating back to 2009).

An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

It will consist of an archipelago of three main islands, the southeasternmost (Raparoa) being larger than the other two and home to the capital and largest city of Rangatapu; an additional 30 much smaller islets and atolls (giver or take) will be scattered throughout the domestic waters. Climate will be tropical/typhoon prone. Geographically, the three larger islands will be relatively mountainous due to their volcanic origins, with lush tropical rainforests covering the majority of the landscape, punctuated by mostly small towns and villages, though I do envision a much more urban character for the main island (similar to Okinawa).

Invest - The Noun Project.svgHuman geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

The Polynesian peoples indigenous to the archipelago will be spread across mostly smaller towns and villages throughout all but the largest island (Raparoa), which will be much more urban in character, with the exception of its mountainous interior. Much of the economy will rely on imports, though a thriving seafood, coral, pearls, diamonds, tropical fruit (guava, coconut, lychee, pineapple), and offshore oil industry will form an integral part of the domestic and export economy. Tourism will also form one of the most important staples of the economy.

Noun Project languages icon 105908 cc.svgHistory & culture
A brief description of the intended culture and language

The culture will consist mainly of a Polynesian or Polynesian-like culture, speaking the Nukaravese language (or Nukaravuan Māori), on which I am currently working.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

My mapping experience on OGF is limited to BG29 in the practice area, but I believe I have shown myself to be quite competent in this regard. The only reason my progress has been slow is because I was intending to work on a large, intricate Arab metropolitan area, for which I currently don’t have adequate time to develop at a reasonable rate; I would thus like to focus my efforts instead on a smaller, isolated and relatively less populated archipelago.

Hey Sortsam, thank you for your application (and your patience with my reply - I was on a longer vacation and just came back). Your concept is really exciting and well thought out and fits the area's character well. Before proceeding with your application, please provide two last missing components:

  • you describe the economy in much detail already, but how affluent would the nation overall be?
  • please provide a sketch of your plan for the territory.

Thank you very much and hope to hear from you soon, Leowezy (talk) 09:03, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
