Forum:Federal States/Naming the Eastern Mountain Range

Since people have been working on officially naming the western mountains, it would be a good idea to start off on the Eastern mountains, too.

I think we should start by nominating names from this list, and perhaps adding some if anyone wishes. If necessary, we can narrow down the list of nominations further before the official ballot. As a side note, appropriate indigenous languages to derive from will probably be Iroquoian or Eastern Algonquian. --Fluffr Nuttr (talk) 07:21, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

  • I nominate Asphale Mountains (checked here on page 9; most likely derived from the Lenape word meaning "to ascend") and Riddler Mountains. --Fluffr Nuttr (talk) 07:21, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
  • I like the Dogtooth Mountains because it feels Appalachian while being unique - if we were to use a native name, I like Annachala and Hatchahaw Icefur2 (talk) 15:29, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
    • I second this nomination, Dogtooth Mountains sounds and feels much more distinctive than the rest of the current list. Infrarrojo (talk) 21:10, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
    • Feels like a fine name for a sub-range. /wangi (talk) 12:59, 6 February 2024 (UTC)
  • In addition to my previous nominations, I nominate a name not on the list, Dehoccenad Mountains, deriviated from the Seneca word Deyökië'nyadö, meaning "They are protecting us".--Fluffr Nuttr (talk) 00:24, 6 February 2024 (UTC)

As a result of the February 2024 omnibus vote, the name of the eastern mountains are to be known as the Asphale Mountains. Full voting results are available in the archives.--TheMayor (talk) 17:31, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
