As members of the FSA discord might already know, I am trying to organize the history for the southeastern region of the country. Considering that most states are claimed, it seems like an optimal time to try to accomplish this. I made an initial proposal for the history, although I strongly suggest fixing it.

Colonization process

The first settlements in the eastern half of Astrasia would have been located likely in the northeastern portion, a vast area colonized by Castellan which would have had as a consequence the areas south of Vega vaguely settled by any ulethan power. With the high competition for land in the west coast among ulethan powers during the 16th century. At the end of the century, Ingrea would have seeked to colonize the other side of the continent, with virtually no other colonial power being interested in the region.

Instead of trying to reach the continent through the southern Asperic ocean, the settlers would attempt to cross the western continents with a more direct, less foreign owned route with lower costs, despite being longer. The first Ingrean settlement in the east coast would have been somewhere along the coast of Opelika or 120-04. That settlement would end up failing due to the marshland location and would have been moved towards the south eventually ending up somewhere in Ponquin. (Note: This last part might get deleted)

The northern colonies had a climate and soil suitable for agriculture, which would have attracted the ingrean elite to plant tobacco, tea and cotton in the interior plains of the colonies in between Ponquin and Opelika, very likely with enslaved labor. In the southeast, the first settlement would have been Collinfield, with the arrival of Cathens (equivalent of Puritans or some similar religious group) fleeing persecution in Ingrea. That would be the start of the Passamaqueets colony, or Orange river Colony in 1639 in the Atwick sound.

One year later, the colony of Hyde was founded with the arrival of the ship Atwick, which miraculously survived a storm off the northern coast of Trinity Island. The colony was named after Charles Hyde Quentins, one of the first bishops of the Ingrean colonies. The settlers established their first settlement at the site where they landed, which would become known as Fort Atwick.

±15 years later the colony of Astrantia would be founded, with Ortholic (Catholic) colonists fleeing the western colonies seeking refuge in the eastern areas of the continent, with more autonomy and less ingrean control. This colony would be the first area in Astrasia to have religious freedom.

In 1662, Kalm, a country which was left out of the partition of the western coast invaded the Rodham river mouth, aggressively colonizing the eastern portions of the continent, putting pressure on their rival, Ingrea, which actively fought wars with it. With that, the colony of Ruppland was founded, encompassing large portions of modern day Ruppacke and Penquisset with Franzhafen as its first settlement.

Consequently 7 years later, to avoid losing the newly acquired colonies, Ingrea had to occupy the region, although the region wasn’t very fertile, which eliminated the possibility of sending colonists, which were already migrating to the northern colonies. To solve the problem, Ingrea decided to send its prisoners to the coast of Stanton Bay, through the creation of the Colony of New Carnaby and the creation of the towns of Partstone and Trappard, which received most of them.

The tensions between Kalm and Ingrea were escalating, however the Kalmish as a last resort action decided to invade the coast of Wiarni, which was being slowly settled by a few colonists from Passamaqueets looking for more fishing areas. This caused a revolt in the town of Collinfield, which was the largest ingrean town in the region.

Due to the large influence that Passamaqueets projected over the communication between the eastern colonies and the mainland, Ingrea decided to declare war on Kalm, which became known as the [name] war. The war would last only 4 years in Uletha, with a truce signed as a stalemate was reached in the Ingrean isles.

Many skirmishes were still happening in Astrasia, which didn’t help with the relationship of the two Ulethan powers. Kalm was sending colonists en masse, mostly prisoners or unwanted members of society to the areas surrounding the Ingrean dominated areas, while the colonies themselves often had armed conflicts amongst each other.

Amidst all that turmoil, the colony of Culpepper was founded in 1686, with colonists fleeing war or religious persecution from other colonies. The port of Divinity’s Grace was also growing as a result of the shipyards located in the central location in the bay.

Similarly, the short lived colony of Saint Mary was also founded in 1689 with the shipbuilding industry in Port Mary. After only 13 years, the colony was annexed into the Commonwealth of Passamaqueets. After a Kalmish fleet battered the entire town of Collinfield, consequently there was a significant exodus to the small city of Burton, protected by tidal flats which was built to withstand another attack. Another city many of those colonists fled to was Warwick, located in the middle of the Warwick island, which was also safer from a war-minded outlook.

Southeastern Astrasia early 18th century proposal

In 1722, Ingrea would participate again in a larger conflict against the Kalmish Empire, with a much bigger fleet than the ones present in the Kalmish ports. In 1729, the organized invasion of Ruppland with a four thousand men infantry regiment succeeded with an Ingrean victory in the colonial war. After the treaty of Nemans in 1732, all of the eastern astrasian Kalmish colonies were ceded to Ingrea, which created the new colonies of Ruppacke and Wiarni.

Independence (?)

The war destroyed most of the cities in the southern colonies, as well as disrupted many plantations in the northern colonies. That, along with a famine caused by a plague, could be developed into an independence process, with Ingrea mostly ignoring the colonies in the eastern side of the continent. As many people know already, The Mayor already has a proposal for independence done in 2022, although it is really simillar to the real life independence process, which despite working really well, could maybe be a bit problematic. Alternatively, both proposals could be merged into a single new proposal, I would also encourage new independence proposals.

The Mayor's proposal: By the early 18th Century, the Ingerish and Castellanese were on friendlier terms with each other than with the Valonian. In an effort for both nations to consolidate power, the Ingerish and Castellanese allied in an effort to push back the Valonian claims in Astrasia, with the Castellanese supporting Ingerish claims against the Valonian in Ardencia and the Alormen River valley while the Ingerish supported Castellanese incursions into Valonian Asperia. To fund these expeditions, both the Ingerish and the Castellanese began more significantly relying on their Astrasian colonists, beginning first with increased taxation. In retaliation for the continued incursions into Valonian colonies, the Valonian engaged in a proxy war by supplying native tribes with arms and encouraged them to attack Ingerish and Castellanese settlements. This in turn led the Ingerish and Castellanese to raise more local armies and continue increasing taxes on the colonists, which quickly led to a unified revolt by both the Ingerish and the (nominally) Castellanese east coast colonists, which resulted in the FSA's independence in 1757. The Valonian were more than happy to support the revolution and helped secure victory, in exchange for more defined claims in Astrasia. The Valonian ended up releasing most of their claims east of the Alormen River to the new Federal States of Archanta in exchange for the FSA renouncing previous Ingerish claims in Ardencia along the southeastern coast. As a compromise between the now-unified citizens of the Federal States, the new national capital was positioned immediately south of the former dividing line between the Ingerish and Castellanese claims. Notably, Ingerish colonists in Deodeca refused to declare independence from the Crown; as the tide of the war turned against the Ingerish in the southeastern Federal States, the Ingerish consolidated their colonial holdings in Deodeca. Further north, the Valonian took a more direct approach, providing direct aid to the colonists near the mouth of the Alormen River to help the Gelesians repel the Ingerish. While some Ingerish loyalists fled to Deodeca, a majority of the colonists stayed in the area and established the independent Alormen Republic. While the Gelesians were initially grateful for the Alormenians assistance with defeating the Ingerish, the colonists also refused to give up their new claims along the bay, relegating the Gelesians to the interior parts of the continent. This greatly destabilized Gelesia, which fell into sectarian violence while also attempting to push back against the increasing claims of the Alormen Republic.

Industrialization

The first region of the country to industrialize was the southeastern area, particularly the cities along the Ashokan river mouth, with coal deposits in the nearby areas fueling the industrial revolution in the Federal States. The region also had extensive iron mining, which, combined with the end of the Ingrean limitations on the extraction of the metal, supplied the first factories.

The concentration of coal deposits around the city of Stanton caused the concentration of industries that culminated into the second migration wave towards the area. It was the main reason why the city grew so much initially, quickly becoming the biggest city in the country, followed by Burton in second place. Later, with the annexation of the new areas in, and beyond the Asphales, coal mining also would have caused the creation of many freight railway tracks in between the mountains and the southeastern industrial belt. There is also a canal system connecting Stanton to the lakes, which should have been enough to justify the current size and importance of Stanton in the FSA.

During this time, Culpepper merged with New Carnaby because of the cultural similarities and integration accomplished by railways connecting Hearthsbridge and Stanton, popularizing the merge. Some time later Penquisset would also split from Ruppacke, finalizing the history for each state. Jr000 (talk) 23:30, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

This is a great proposal. I'm still thinking about the history for my territory since I only recently claimed it. I don't have much to add at this time, I haven't been a part of the FSA for very long. Once I have my history finalized I will add to this. Thunderbird (talk) 04:07, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
