Hey y'all (including OGF gods),
In the interest of keeping territories realistic, I think that a number of territories should be merged into one. My argument stems from three issues:
A lot of small territories have already accessioned into OGF;
Small territories are unrealistically small, or have little reason to exist;
Ambiguity of ability to apply for multiple territories under a single entity in one go
My proposal is that a number of small territories be merged into larger, albeit still managable territories. It should also be made clear that users can still choose to apply/expand for portions of territory.
Comments are welcome, as well as adding recommendations for consolidation below, if this plan ever comes to fruition...
I think that having small territories is important for OGF (speaking as the owner of two, haha), because a lot of people don't want to commit or feel intimidated by large ones (and small territories nicely scratch the sort of microstate itch that a lot of fictional mappers enjoy, I think). That said, I do agree that there are areas where some consolidation and border changes are warranted on the current map, in particular in the area you've highlighted around UL27h etc, and I wonder if consolidating the territories on the Gwynian peninsula in North Archanta might help encourage activity there. I am going to push back against consolidation in the Tarephian region you've highlighted (former Narghenna) - I think there's a pretty good balance there now and consolidation will happen over time via expansions. As for the Antarephian islands where Ohesia used to be, I am of the opinion that about half of them should be deleted entirely. --User:Lithium-Ion | [1] (talk) 01:02, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
I get your argument, but I think that we should make it clear in the territory application forum that applying for a "small chunk" of territory from a bigger one should be okay... but it shouldn't be the other way around, as the ability to claim multiple territories could open up a can of worms... in some sense, each territory would act as a "maximum limit" to how much a user can initially apply for in one go, and they can choose to take smaller bits as they please... feel free to add some territories below - ParrotMan (talk) 15:13, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
