I'd like to open a discussion (or more of an interest check) about the future of the former Bai Empire. After some considerations, especially since how university stuff is winding down, I've consulted admin regarding whether it's possible to revive the Bai project. The main concerns at the moment, however, is the potential lack of audience and activity, which were among the reasons why the previous iteration of this project had shut down. So, this is a thread to gauge proper interest in reviving the Bai Empire, or Peichew.

What will the revived project be about?

I've drafted a new collab framework for the project. This time, it is a Teochew-speaking country under a semi-constitutional monarchy. As such, this project is not intended to have any direct parallels to any real-world nation, but rather as an answer to what a functioning, modern oriental empire will be like. It was previous intended to be the Chinese homeland and was Mandarin-speaking, but I decided to rework the project to account for Huaxia.

Like the former Bai Empire, Peichew was once a colonial power with several territories in the East Ulethan and Archantan regions, historically serving as a fierce rival to neighboring Huaxia. The two nations engaged in numerous conflicts over the centuries, with the last war fought in the 1920-30s. While Huaxia transitioned into a socialist republic, Peichew evolved into a constitutional monarchy as it modernised its political system. (In contemporary times, it is widely believed that Peichew and Huaxia enjoy much friendlier relations.)

Today, Peichew maintains significant influence in Northern Archanta and asserts itself as the successor to the First Bai, a historic empire that once unified Huaxia and Peichew. Although Peichew retains several important historical cities of the region, this claim remains a subject of debate. Culturally, geographically, and climatically, Peichew draws strong inspiration from Taiwan and the Chaozhou-speaking regions of Mainland China.

Collaborative framework

The project will be restructured similarly to Collab:Valonne, where parts of the Empire are open for individual users or groups to request as private territories. I plan to give more autonomy for private users and hope to rework the project from the ground-up with broader community consensus, including its history and culture. I admit another failure of the previous project was my rigid top-down approach in handling the project.

Discussion

Hi, glad to see the reburn of Bai, or now Peichew. I'm not the administrator but here are just some of my thoughts as a partial coordinator of Huaxia on the framework of the future collaboration. I don't mean such the framework of Valonne is not good, but it would be important for you to choose the suitable one based on the target participation. I think if Peichew's target mapper is people whose first language is also Chinese, applying Valonne model may cause difficulties for newcomers who aren't familiar with English since they need to fill the application especially when now we couldn't know if it will be active. If the target is not Chinese, that's not a problem.

Also, you mentioned you would like to give more autonomy for private users, which may need more effort to manage on national view. And you may need to think about how would you like to treat vacant area which may cause much disconnection in the country before someone own it. This may be hard, but good luck. Hope we can see a new Peichew soon. ——NM$l (talk) 16:43, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
