Why are all the territories in the western hemisphere unavailable?--BlooXen. Thanks! (talk) 05:59, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

Presently, there is neither need nor actual mapping demand to open the "western continents" at this point. There are a ton of unclaimed and underutilized areas of our four continents now. At the risk of sounding negative, there may be a desire of some to want to open the western continents to do meta world-building, but the present rate of progress in our existing projects highlights how we already have a greater supply than demand. — Alessa (talk) 13:35, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
No debate over the lack of demand, I do agree and it appears even more true now that we know that the site is fairly stable/even in users over time. That said, the worldbuilding part does pose an obstacle in some ways, especially for those territories closest to the edge facing them.
Personally I'd say if its overwhelmingly obvious that the new continents will not open anytime soon and that we may never have yhe demand to open them, it might be a good idea to just "sink" and officially decanonize them and move forward with the idea that for any forseeable future, there are 4 continents and going west from Tarephia leads to Archanta. Removes the constant questioning about the western continents and removes the obstacle to world building. Ernestpkirby (talk) 23:15, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
The downside is that an entirely empty western hemisphere ends up with a pretty similar worldbuilding construct as an inactive western hemisphere anyway since the ocean would be so vast that it'd basically be uncrossable until modern times. Sure, there's always the possibility that they would open up at some point in the future, but I don't know if canonically getting rid of them clears all that much up for coastal territories. --TheMayor (talk) 19:43, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
First of all there is no need to do anything with western continents. For now it's just better to believe they don't exist for worldbuilding purposes as retconnning it at one point of history would not be that difficult. But the answer to the question if/when they should be opened is not obvious. If we assume there is no demand for additional territories because all mappers can find suitable place in the old world then probably they would never be opened. But on the other hand the continents may be opened at one point just to give wider variety of choice for mappers. I know current consensus is to keep higher density of mappers on smaller area but it doesn't have to be like that. It's philosophical question where one has to choose between freedom of choice and more intense cooperation with neighbours. There is no clear answer. Rustem Pasha (talk) 20:10, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
I think it also has to do with the fact that there is a lot of open space on the current continents. Tarephia and Antarephia both have a lot of blank/hardly developed countries, and even more developed continents like the Ulethas and Archanta have substantial open areas (for example Franqueterre in West Uletha and the southern and northern extremes of East Uletha). -- Anonymous21 (talk) 00:04, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
