The Territory ID (from OpenGeofiction:Territories, e.g. AR123a) and proposed name of the country

AR120-95 - TBD

Noun Project Map icon 1463108.svgPhysical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

The islands will be heavily inspired from low-lying coastal landforms such as Magdalen Islands[1], Bermuda[2], Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Island[3], Miquelon[4], etc. The territory will be formed by three major islands (with topography being mainly flat, with minor hills peaked around 200-300m) and connected by a complex series of sandbars, salt marshs, and tombolos (as seen predominantly in the Magdalen Islands).

The latitude is further south than the reference real-world places, so the Atlantic maritime climate element will be less prevalent in AR120-95, with a more warmer oceanic/maritime climate.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Due to the island's isolation and small land area, AR120-95 will not be very developed. With a rough population of around 10,000 people, the islands will be very sparsely populated.

The island's economy is mainly supported by extensive fishing and aquaculture industries, with fishing and related production/manufacturing being the primary industry in the islands. The island's strategic position will also support a military naval facility that provides employment and some migratory populations to the island. Tourism is also a minor industry, mainly through its protected natural features and wildlife that is endemic to the islands.

Land occupation will consist of cleared grass/fields that have been turned into agricultural landuse, with both crops and pastures for animals. Woodland and natural areas will revolve around elevated points and low-lying marshland that is unsuitable for development.

Infrastructurally, due to the island's low population, roads will be limited to primary roads. There will be one airport that provides the main point of entry/exit from AR120-95. There will be multiple shipping and port facilities around the island.

Mapping style will reflect the aforementioned reference places, but with a more US-style of landuse and organization.

A brief description of the intended culture and language

Aligning with the Arecales, the islands were uninhabited before Ulethan discovery in the 16th century. It was passed over by the colonial powers in the following centuries due to lack of interest and lack of land for extensive development. It was used primarily as a rest point and station for fishing/whaling/sealing by independent parties. In the 18th/19th century, the Ingrean Navy decided to build a naval station on the island and from that point, migration was mainly invoked through servicemens' families and missionaries, who formed their own settlements on the islands. Over time, the population grew into a fishing and agricultural community.

Language-wise, Ingrean will be the primary language, with minimal influence from other colonial languages.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

I would also like to request that this application in exchange for Wychelle (AR120-46). With work in Sangria, I am finding island-mapping very rewarding due to decreased land size. I feel downsizing from Wychelle to AR120-95 will allow me to map more frequently and to a higher degree of quality, and also be more enjoyable for me to map.

NOTE: I am happy to change and alter my proposal in align with regional admin's wishes or thoughts, such as the island's geography potentially not making sense for its location, or the proposed small population demographics and history. I am also unsure whether this proposal would be suitable for a state, and instead perhaps for an overseas territory?

Discussion for clarification & decision

I just thought I'd pop in to say that if this application (which looks great) is approved, I'd appreciate if some of the current mapping was preserved somewhere. It's not very high in quality, but I've always thought it had a lot of personality (especially the island with Makupiko). --User:Lithium-Ion | [10] (talk) 03:59, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

The Hartford Islands only exists in this location because it preserves some reasonable quality personable mapping. As such, for an application to be successful it would need to outline a plan to embrace the current mapping, improve it and increase its realism (the railway!). /wangi (talk) 21:16, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. Just to clarify, by 'embracing the current mapping', to what extent am I allowed to delete/alter the existing mapping and layout? Arlo (talk) 03:05, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
