Please fill in the information below to make a territory request.

I read in the FAQs that accommodations can be made for integrating pre-existing worldbuilding into OGF - I’ve got a nation I’ve been working on for a few years now and have SVG maps for the geology, physical and political geography and a lot more. I’ve been working on a beginner tile to get my head around JOSM building an area of this worldbuilding project in OGF as a proof of concept (314502∈⊾ƨ

Having familiarised myself with the policy around islands I appreciate that generally speaking new larger islands are not added without good reason, I’m hoping that this can be acceptable as the proposed addition is:

  • Fairly small at 160km from furthest points.
  • Well developed (I can share full SVG maps if helpful, also see part of the existing worldbuilding which I'm trying to transition from: https://theleaguens.miraheze.org/wiki/Kernev https://theleaguens.miraheze.org/wiki/Category:Kernev)
  • Could fit in geographically (I’d be most keen to have it off the west coast of West Uletha, where island chains already exist, and in relative close proximity to existing Brittonic languages). See proposed location under Physical Geography
Territory ID and proposed name
The Territory ID (from OpenGeofiction:Territories, e.g. AR123a) and proposed name of the country

UL* (Hesperic Ocean) - Principality of Kernev (Kernevic: Pennsevigeth Kernev)

Request for a new medium-sized island in West Uletha based on pre-existing project.

Physical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. With the exception of Beginner territories, you should always create a sketch map to illustrate & explain your plans. You can add a link to this (hosted on imgBB, Postimages or similar, but not imgur.com)

Island (circa 5000km2) formed around a series of granitic plutons. Coastline characterised by a number of rias. Relatively hilly, with large moorland above the plutons, with one of these sunken sufficiently to form a small archipelago (the Isles of Fawy) to the north-west.

Temperate oceanic climate (Cfb).

47.862 degrees north down to 46.756 degrees north would be the range of latitudes ideally. (ie west of the far north coast of Roantra)

Human geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Highly rural, with a relatively low population density, characterised by market towns and an absence of cities.

Road infrastructure is limited with short stretches of dual carriageway, and a nationally significant infrastructure programme underway to build the first continuous dual carriageway between the major market towns. A limited rail network exists primarily developed during a mid-19th century boom in tin production. One international airport serves the island, with a number of airstrips catering to private users across the region, and one commercial domestic airstrip on the Isles of Fawy.

GDP per capita on the low end for more economically developed nations at 32,000USD per capita, with agriculture as the largest employer, with a particular focus on bovine and ovine farming, with a growing tourism sector.

  • GDP pc: 32,000USD (2022)
  • HDI: 0.921
  • Population: 596,277 (2022)
  • Currency: Kernevic Tokyn (Ƿ) (1.21KTK~1USD)

History & culture
A brief description of the intended culture and language

First settled during the 1st century AD. Linguistically and culturally Kernevic (Cornish) with some colonial Ingrean influences and small Ingrean-speaking populations in the north-east. Primarily Druidic population, with growing non-religious population.

Historically significant as a free port and haven for trade and smuggling in the Hesperic Ocean.

Past mapping
To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful.
The {{coord}}, {{node}}, {{relation}} or {{scalehelper}} templates can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - they result in nicely formatted links. Or you can paste in a URL.

314502∈⊾ƨ I have more substantial SVG mapping which I’m happy to share - this is just what I’ve trialled on JOSM as a proof of concept.

Not an admin, but some general comments... The concept looks interesting, and your mapping so far looks good. The place for 'Brittonic' cultures is (or has been) east of Ingrea in the Vinn sea area. There's nothing active there just now, but I'd suggest you consider a location near the UL11s, or perhaps between there and Ingrea. Good luck! Ūdilugbulgidħū (talk) 20:08, 10 October 2026 (UTC)

Thanks! Yeah conscious that there's an inactive Welsh territory in Tircambry, my preference was for out in the west as the worldbuilding I've done so far has been at a lower latitude and therefore climatically has been a bit different. Also my current history puts settlement at around 1st century AD which would probably be really late for the Vinn Sea! Can rework if needed but that's why I went with the Hesperic Ocean as my suggested location. Kaiserjaeger (talk) 11:16, 11 October 2026 (UTC)

Hi, I'm also not an admin, but I highly suggest using a different name than 'Kernev'. Its near-perfect match with Kernow (Cornwall's endonym), alongside your territory's Cornish theme means that it's a little too similar. Also, as a note: I think the policy is less that OGF will accommodate for you, and more that you have to accommodate for OGF. As such, when Udi commented that Celtic territories generally belong in the Vinn Sea area, but you pointed out that it's not a good match in terms of climate, you'll have to compromise some way or another, whether it's by adjusting your culture, climate, and/or date of settlement, as OGF lore that has been established for several years will take priority. Thank you. --IiEarth (talk) 03:57, 12 October 2026 (UTC)

Dear, Kaiserjaeger. Your mapping is good and I think we can go forward with the incorporation of your territory into OpenGeofiction. However, as users Ūdilugbulgidħū and iiEarth have pointed out, we will have to make sure that your country fits in well within the grand scheme of things on the website. There should be no precedent set that users with projects from outside OGF can easily come and populate the world with new countries without taking into account the other territories. The entire project has the goal of having all users work together to create a connected and realistic world. With that, the location of the country is the foremost aspect to discuss. The Celtic culture and language is present in this region, as others have pointed out. Now I will say that the territory doesn't have to be locked to the Vinn Sea, the Celtic culture spread all around Europe, so to me it sounds plausible to assume Celtic influence is notable in the entirety of Ingrea for example, therefore having a Celtic nation on the other side of the strait can be explained somehow. I do believe the island should be closer to the mainland, for example somewhere here. There's also the issue of geology, the placement of the island should have the tectonic activity and the current land in mind. I think being a bit further north in that specific region won't affect your climate, which could remain Cfb. We understand the lore you are bringing with you, and you requesting an island gives us way more leeway when deciding specifics, but you still will have to adapt it to your new surroundings whether it's the era of first settlement, cultural dynamics, etc. I'm not sure whether you intend to carry over all the lore from the other website with this territory, but your primary focus will have to be on mapping rather than lore. That being said, lore does shape mapping in one way or another which is why this is important. ── Bixelkoven (talk) (West Uletha Admin) 12:03, 13 October 2026 (UTC)

Great thanks, and yeah to be clear I by no means intended to import stuff without integrating it properly into the world: haven't had a chance to go massively in-depth but it being such a small state in near vicinity to Ingrea, it'd probably be completely dependent on Ingrea economically and militarily, and with substantial cultural influence. How's this for a location nearer the strait (https://ibb.co/rK3JQy57)? And yeah I started this project originally because the small scale allowed for detailed mapping, I only more recently discovered OGF was a thing, so certainly treating the mapping with precedence. As for what lore to bring over, I'll bring over canonically as much as makes sense to for determining the mapping, but of course nothing that would be incompatible with existing precedent. Let me know if there are any issues with the amended location etc. Thanks Kaiserjaeger (talk) 20:49, 13 October 2026 (UTC)
