Forum:Territory application/UL08m - in exchange for AR032c

From OpenGeofiction
ForumsTerritory application → Territory application/UL08m - in exchange for AR032c

Please fill in the information below to make a territory request.
Territory ID and proposed name
The Territory ID (from OpenGeofiction:Territories, e.g. AR123a) and proposed name of the country

AR032c - Malselia. Exchange for UL08m. (changed to UL18ae area for the southwest part) request for area change and relocation. If the request is successful, I will need technical assistance for the relocation.

Physical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. With the exception of Beginner territories, you should always create a sketch map to illustrate & explain your plans. You can add a link to this (hosted on imgBB, Postimages or similar, but not imgur.com)

The climate is Mediterranean on the coast, and humid continental in the rest of the country. The current area could perhaps be rotated to fit in, so it would fit well with the maps on the West Uletha page (elevation and terrain map, biomes map, major rivers and mountain ranges map)

Human geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Demographically stagnant country, with a relatively high level of development and good infrastructure. Some active mining. Forestry, tourism are significant, industry is present around the big cities. Slowly developing railway network, but the main lines are good. In terms of road network, the first and second order roads are good, the rest less so.

History & culture
A brief description of the intended culture and language

I have a problem with languages. I use three languages in a small area in different "counties". Plevian (proximity to Plevia could explain it) Uralic -rw Hungarian culture and Slavic rw Slovakian culture. Immigration and settlement come to mind here.

Past mapping
To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful.
The {{coord}}, {{node}}, {{relation}} or {{scalehelper}} templates can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - they result in nicely formatted links. Or you can paste in a URL.

Hello. Thank you for the application. In order to properly process the request, we are going to need more information. Can you provide a map or two that outlines how you plan to lay out the territory? Where are the cities, cultures, industries, topographic features, etc. Also, clarification is needed on city size, population, landforms, etc. The culture mix you are requesting is a different mix, but it is also different from what exists and is expected to exist in the region. You mention the proximity to Plevia, but the Slavic and Hungarian cultures you mention are even further away. This will need some explanation also. Once we have a better understanding of your intentions here, we can orient our discussion.

As a note, please also refrain from adding behavioral switches or unneeded tags to the page, as it can cause this type of page to break. — Alessa (talk) 13:52, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

Hi Alessa, thank you for your answer. I will try the platform as intended.

Some data about my area: population approx. 3,000,000, population density ~192 people/km2. The most densely populated part is in the lakeside strip. It is divided into five counties, the Slavic and Ugric counties have their own autonomy. The form of government is a constitutional monarchy. The attached sketch map shows the main mountain ranges, populated cities, and rivers.

https://ibb.co/1td6n035

Counties 1 and 2: their culture and language are Pleven-like. Their climate, agriculture and biosphere are Mediterranean in nature. Main industries: food industry, energy, construction, mechanical engineering, military industry, shipbuilding, ceramics, textile and clothing industry, entertainment industry, chemical industry, processing industry, light industry. Tourism is significant in summer.

County 3: its culture and language are Ugric. Its climate is temperate continental (humid continental), varied by the collision of continental and Mediterranean influences. It is characterized by four distinct seasons: hot summers, cold winters and mild spring and autumn. The climate is favorable for cereals (wheat, corn), industrial crops (sunflower, rapeseed) and vegetable and fruit production, and arable farming is significant. Main industries: food industry, mechanical engineering, construction industry, ceramic industry, textile and clothing industry, chemical industry, tobacco industry, handicraft industry, processing industry, light industry.

Counties 4 and 5: their culture and language are Slavic. Their climate are temperate continental, characterized by hot, dry summers and cold, cloudy, rainy winters. Agriculture: Production of cereals, oilseeds and sugar beet dominates. In the hilly and mountainous areas, natural vegetation and forestry, as well as the use of pastures and hayfields, are significant. Main industries: Food industry, construction industry, wood industry, metal industry, energy, ceramic industry, chemical industry, processing industry, light industry, paper production. Some active mines are still in operation.

I am worried about the linguistic and cultural differences. The Slavic and Ugric nations could only have come to the area through immigration. They could have migrated due to the political or economic situation in the homeland or war...etc. In several stages along an east-west trade route. Another version could be the fragmentation of the current country. Counties 1 and 2 would only be placed in the UL08m area, the other counties together or separately somewhere else, e.g. the Ugric nation would be moved to an empty area of Csanadoszág. The Slavic nation could still be in a good place, the language is indicated in the UL13f area. If its future owner thinks so. I'm out of ideas now. Thanks.Gonzy (talk) 15:41, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

The map you have provided is of your current territory, not the proposed one. In order to properly follow along, please provide a map of the how the proposed territory would lay out. That said, I remain unconvinced about the cultural mix—not because there is any issue with it on its own but rather where it is located on our map. The distances with the Slavic and Ugric cultures is far bigger than you are accounting for. And, simply attesting it to "immigration" would not make for what you are suggesting in your write-up. A full-scale migration would have taken place in the past to account for it on that type of distance. If you were talking about one as a minority population that had historically been there with migration centuries ago, it might be more reasonable; trying to fit two in here is very difficult. I strongly suggest revisiting the cultural makeup of the application. If you are willing to forego the Plevian and rely on the Slavic and Ugric mix, which could be really interesting in its own right, I might be willing carve out a part of the southermost province of UL18a (of course, pending what the concept would really look like and allowing others in the region to reply). Thanks. — Alessa (talk) 02:33, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Hi Alessa. I have considered the option you have outlined. Very good idea, the conditions are suitable for me.I would rotate my current country 180 degrees and move it to the southernmost point of the UL18 area. (I would need technical assistance to move it) In this case, the country's territory would expand to the south and west, if this is not a problem. The current ocean coast would remain for a long stretch, but I would turn it into a lake coast by creating a lake.
  • I would change the ocean coast characteristics of the settlements here. For example, the commercial port in the capital would be transformed. The Plevian linguistic and cultural area will be abolished and divided between the Slavic and Ugric nations. The country will be bilingual, but the labeling will generally align with the administrative area. The relief, hydrography, and settlements will remain in their current form. The division of Slavic and Ugric territories.
  • After the prehistoric peoples, the Slavic peoples settled in the area. The Ugric tribes arrived together with the Csanáds and fulfilled a border protection function. They adopted Christianity in the early Middle Ages. The area was repeatedly ruled by the surrounding Slavic nations, but for a long time it belonged to the Csanáds. The two nationalities mixed during migrations, settlements and resettlements within the region. Common marriages, common rulers and common foreign policy goals also created the common state. The state form was once a margraviate, a duchy, a socialist republic, and today it is a parliamentary monarchy. Its current form and borders were formed after the World War. I am happy to respond and negotiate with the owners of the countries in the region. Thanks.Gonzy (talk) 08:36, 15 February 2026 (UTC)
This is a much better fit for the region. Thank you.
While I'm working with my fellow admin on the exact details of carving out a territory here, it might take a few days as some are away right now. That said, there are two things I would prefer to see. First, moving the entire territory as is is not viable. It will have to be broken up into chunks to move it. This gives you an opportunity to rearrange it to better fit in with the surrounding territories. Consider terrain, hydrology, and land cover more carefully. So, the first thing is to show me a plan of how the non-human parts of the geography look. I'd like to see what we are working with there. Then, second, please let me know how you would like to rearrange the bits of the human geography to fit the new terrain. This conception would be helpful. Since it's going to still be a bit, feel free to take the time to also start renaming things you want to move. It'll save the grief later. Cheers, — Alessa (talk) 18:44, 25 February 2026 (UTC)
