UL10-06 - Averleigh

Averleigh will be the short common name for the region. But culturally if not politically the region will consist of two individual branching identities from the same base. The formal name of the region will be the Averleigh Peninsula, while the metropolitan area that exists within is referred to as Averside.

Most of the region is covered with healthland moors, along the lines of the real life Cumbria/Lake District, only at a lesser scale elevation wise. The region, while largely covered in heathland moors, will only have large swaths of fertile and flatter land at the northern borders to UL10-05 and -02.

The borders to the east and west of the region will trace the length of the two major rivers in the region, one of which creating the border with -07 (and is currently unnamed), and one creating the border with -01, which will be the River Aver. Each will meet the coast in estuaries, with the -07 being the larger of the two.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

I shall be importing all my previous British-themed works into this region, including the Rockford-Cashmere region of Glaster, and my previous nation of Condeuva which currently resides in AN148.

Rough sketch of Averleigh, consisting of approximation of current mapping when imported in, and approximation of important landuses

The Rockford-Cashmere region will fit into the estuary area on the border with -01, and will be the largest metropolitan center in the Averleigh region, intending to be an/the industrial core of Ingerland's western coast.

Meanwhile, the former Condeuva region will run up the western coast of the Averleigh Peninsula, feeding into the estuary area at the north of this region where the western river feeds into the sea. This region will be less densely populated.

Further north in the fertile farmlands up to the borders of -05 and -02, this will be the least densely populated area, though should contain the most of the historic landmarks and tourist attractions in the region.

A brief description of the intended culture and language

The two cultures of the Averleigh region originate from the same source, but have been split for centuries since Ingerland's industrial revolution. The otherwise highly developed Rockford-Cashmere region will be known as Averside and would contain a more metropolitan and industrious culture, intending to the region's industrial manufacture center, and potentially the core of Ingerland's western sea-board.

Opposite to this culture is the culture of the Averleigh Peninsula, which is a more rural, less industrious, farming and natural culture. They oppose being included in discussion of the Averside culture as they view themselves as drastically different.

The closest analogy I could imagine is placing the culture of Cumbria to directly neighbour the Merseyside culture of the Liverpool area.

In the larger fertile lands in the region's north, due to their flatter and more fertile lands; while they still identify and are included in the culture of the Averleigh Peninsula (as opposed to Averside), they are more accepting of development due to the history of the region having more historically important landmarks and buildings. They are more open to developing tourism and leisure to the region as the main core outside of Averside.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

  • Aces, this is a good application. In general, I'm totally on board with it and already well versed in your quality of mapping. I think you'd make a good addition to the Ingerland project. We approve the boundary change, as well. At this point, I would simply like for Aiki to weigh in as Antarephia admin about the move from the former Condeuva. Otherwise, this looks good. — Alessa (talk) 18:13, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
    • Follow up: So, Aiki is amazing and on top of things. He has provided you with parameters for the move. I'm fine with it in the long run. I have three generic comments to keep in mind with the approval:
      1. I think you may be considering all of this as one historical county or something of the like but with two local microcultures. That's fine, but keep in mind that how the historic counties/regions/etc. appear on the map hasn't quite been decided by the community yet. That discussion will start soon.
      2. Please either repurpose the existing mapping in your region or delete it. You might find use downgrading things to unclassified and track to fill out some rural farming areas instead of leaving them as overpowered roads and rails.
      3. I will allow you to draw the river and boundary yourself, but I would encourage bumping the northern area a couple kilometers further west if possible.

Please see three points above, and also take care to follow Aiki's procedure for relocating the mapping.
