Lichtland is a state located in western Uletha covering about 102,701 km², bordered by Pretannia, UL08m, UL08p, UL11l, UL13e and UL13g. Known for its diverse cultural heritage and picturesque landscapes, Lichtland is characterized by its hilly terrain in the north, fertile plains in the central areas and southeastern areas and some mountainous regions in the west. A major river flows through the nation’s central area and forms a significant part of its southeastern border, serving as a vital waterway for transportation and trade.

Invest - The Noun Project.svgHuman geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Lichtland has a population 10,540,000 people, with most of them (~70%) living in urban areas. Most of the population lives in the cities bordering Baltupe river and Zaļkalni Plains.

The capital and most populous city in Lichtland is Krānpils (Kranburg), with the population of 877,000. The city's located right in the heart of the country, on the Baltupe river and it's economy is mostly based on tourism, with most tourists coming to see Krānpils' historic centre, Krānpils Vecpilsēta.

Economy

The economy of Lichtland is dominated by the manufacturing and it's tourism industry, although it has an important mineral mining sector, that has constantly been growing since the late 18th century and which was the main source of income for Lichtland in the early 20th century.

Infrastucture

The road network consists of both many major roads, National roads (N), Trunk roads (A), Primary roads (P) and Secondary roads (V), and mostly minor roads (~65%), almost all of which are in cities and the Zaļkalni Plains. There are also tourist routes, special roads made for tourists to get acess to scenic places, usually they are marked with the letter "T" and cost 15 Thaler to drive on.

The railway spans through most of the country, since the rail industry was very active in the mid 20th century, connecting the cities on Baltupe river, Zaļkalni Plains and the Labdari Mountains.

A brief description of the intended culture and language

I think the culture and language would be Latvian, and the first Lichtlandic state being established in 1040, The Republic of Lichtland was established in 1870.

Discussion for clarification & decision

  • Hello, Petons! There are some very interesting aspects regarding your application, but also some underlying issues. I'll note them below:
  1. I think you'll have to understand the scaling better as you map. First, the territory is smaller than you noted, it is just about a hundred thousand square kilometers (as seen here). Second, some of your mapping is smaller than it should be, like in Kleiner-See-Gutshof, Rabenheim, Downtown Edwinton, etc. This tool might help you grasp the scaling on the map better.
  2. Your mapping in general is okay and interesting, and although I focus mostly on European-themed mapping regarding West Ulethan territory applications, I will say that the American and Japanese-themed areas are also a nice addition to your 'portfolio', so to say. I'd like you to continue on one of the German-themed areas you've started, since that is the style you would be using in this territory should you get your request accepted. I am particularly interested to see you continue develop Gut Adlig-Kircheshof (second link you've provided), and potentially some more urban mapping with buildings and amenities. I will also recommend having more nodes in your objects to increase the smoothness, notably for roads.
  3. I like the German-Baltic vibe you are seeking, however, if you are willing to, I can recommend experiment more with the Baltic part. It's not a requirement, just a fun side-quest. Your territory is separated from the German homeland by other cultures, and is in close proximity to Romance, other Germanic and Slavic nations on all sides, so feel free to experiment with a custom German/German-Baltic culture and language, if you feel inspired to do so.
  4. Since the real area size of the territory is smaller than you anticipated, the population you suggested would also have to get reduced. I suggest no more than 9-10 million given the area size and how much north it is located. Up to you in any case.
  5. The economy, infrastructure, physical georgaphy sections you've described are good, realistic and fitting. However, a major component missing are visual plans. I cannot proceed without seeing what you are imagining for the territory visually. In other words, just put your words into a visual plan.
  6. See the continental suggestions on the continent page
    1. The territory has the following description on the territory overview map: "A major river flows through the nation's central area and southeastern border / This territory is partly home to an important canal system". Both of the two features mentioned can be seen on the following image, located on the page mention right above.

I hope you find these tips useful, and if you have any questions I am available here, on OGF's private messages or on Discord, or you may contact the rest of the community and ask for tips there as well. This application will remain open until you develop more mapping. Happy mapping! ⸺ Bixelkoven (talk) (West Uletha Admin) 18:13, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

  • Hello! I've changed up some stuff in this application and also mapped an entire town (well not completely finished). I have also mapped a little natural stuff like forests, screes (and other mountain stuff) plus some stuff in OSM.

Cheers,

Dear, Petons. There's plenty of space for improvement, but the mapping is okay for a beginner. This is a somewhat larger territory and usually a beginner would've had to provide a bit more work to acquire it. I will reward your quick and hard work you've put recently and me overseeing your progress privately helped with that. Nevertheless, as said there's a lot to improve, notably some building placement methods, bodies of water, more nodes in your ways, etc. The natural mapping sample could've been larger. I believe you can improve those easily with practice and by staying in touch with the rest of the community that is happy to help you. The territory plans are okay, and you've happily accepted my suggestions which is a great touch. I am also very happy you decided to include Latvian more over German. I hope to see you improve over time and become an integral part of the community. Happy mapping!
