OpenGeofiction is comprised of open data, licensed under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL) and based on OpenStreetMap® software. The site was originally developed as a project by Thilo Stapff (@thilo) and Johannes Bouchain (@joschi81) in 2014.

License

Our documentation, and the map and wiki data our users contributed is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 license (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0).

You are free to copy, distribute, transmit and adapt our data, as long as you credit OpenGeofiction and its contributors. If you alter or build upon our data, you may distribute the result only under the same license. The full legal code explains your rights and responsibilities.

Crediting OpenGeofiction

We require that you use the credit “© OpenGeofiction contributors” when using, distributing, transmitting, copying, or adapting our data.

You must also make it clear that the data is available under the Open Database License. You may do this by linking to this copyright page.

The map tiles in the “standard style” at www.opengeofiction.net are a Produced Work by the OpenGeofiction community using OpenGeofiction data under the Open Database License. If you are using these tiles please use the following attribution: “Base map and data from OpenGeofiction and its contributors”.

For a browsable electronic map, the credit should appear in the corner of the map.

Copyright infringement

OpenGeofiction contributors are reminded never to add data from any copyrighted sources (e.g. Google Maps or printed maps) or to copy data from other open-source projects (e.g. OpenStreetMap).
