Infrastructure
National Highways 1–9 should eventually be dual carriageways, with at least two lanes per side and a asphalt or concrete road surface. They should be grade separated if they are not running parallel to a motorway.
National Highways 10–99 and Regional Highways should be at least a single carriageway, with a paved road surface.
Local Highways should have a paved road surface.
Numbering
The number of digits in a road number determines how important the road is: National Highways 1–99 represent trunk roads, Regional Highways 100–999 represent the principal roads, and Local Highways 1000–9999 represent the secondary roads.
The road numbering system for all-purpose roads in Mecyna consists of a grid of three zones for vertical (north-south) routes, and six zones for horizontal (east-west) routes. National Highways 2–3 define the boundaries of Zones 1–3 for vertical routes, while National Highways 5–9 define the boundaries of Zones 4–9 for horizontal routes.

Road numbers of vertical routes begin with 1, 2 or 3. Road numbers of horizontal routes begin with 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9. The first digit in the number of any road depends on which zone the road is generally in: for example, the road number for a horizontal road from Escala to Sarantidi will begin with 5, because the road is in Zone 5.
The first digit in the number of any road that crosses into an adjacent zone will be the lowest numbered zone: for example, the road number of a horizontal road which runs between Zone 8 and Zone 9 will start with 8, not 9.
A route must not cross more than two zones (e.g. Zone 4 to Zone 6), and must not cross back into a previously-entered zone (e.g. Zone 4 to Zone 5, then back into Zone 4). Routes with the same first digit may cross each other (e.g. National Highways 30 and 31 at Srenjia), but such crossings should be kept to a minimum.
