UL29j, the Ardenlands

Noun Project Map icon 1463108.svgPhysical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

Topography: Mostly flat plains on the coast with some forest in the west and center, hills in the center of the country.

Climate: The country has a temperate climate. Max temps in winter are around 20C, summer around 25-30C.

Landscape: There are many forests in the country, mostly in the center, many of which are state or national parks. Outside of the forrests are plains mainly in the east and west.

Currently I'm not decided on where the towns and cities will be, I'll make some changes to the island shape and remove/modify the unnatural-looking north-west and south-west bays.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Demographics: Most people (~80%) are Ardenich. ~70% people speak English at home, ~20% speak German, ~5% speak Spanish, ~5% other languages. Most people are atheist (~65%) with ~20% being Christian, ~10% Muslim and the rest other religions.

Economics: GDP is similar to that of West Europe / US / Canada / Australia, perhaps a bit lower. Median income is 48,000 AUD.

Land: Industrial and commercial areas are mostly on the east and south-east. Islands are mainly rural and not heavily populated. Farmland is present in non forest rural areas.

Mapping style: It will be Australia/New Zealand like, most city and town structures will be similar to Australian/New Zealand cities/towns but also some foreign influences. A bit more densely populated than Australia.

A brief description of the intended culture and language

English is the official spoken language in the country. Culture is similar to England. Beans on toast is a world famous Ardenich cuisine.

History: The Ardenlands was settled in 1598 by English settlers, it was sparsely inhabited before that. It was a colony until the 1730s when it gained independence. Many old towns have very British names.

Discussion for clarification & decision

Thank you for your application. A few comments:

  • please provide a rough sketch of your plans for the territory
  • please note that in temperate climate, the maximum temperature during winter will be considerably lower than 20C
  • for history, please expand a little on the culture that was dominant before Ingerish settlement starting in 1598, and whether and how this reflects in the modern times

Looking forward to your reply, kind regards Leowezy (talk) 13:23, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

Hello,

Regarding the climate, winter temperature was supposed to be 10C not 20C (mistake), also adjusted the summer temps down by a bit.

The pre-Ingerish cultures - there were a few native tribes living in the area, somewhat similar to southern Africans and the Australian aboriginals. When the Ingerish arrived they either drove them out of the area or made them slaves in both Ingerland and modern-day Ardenlands, and they were not allowed to reproduce. Consequently the native culture here has been effectively wiped out, except on one singular island in the eastern bay, where there is one small tribe left, and the island has had no modern development on it yet.

Working on the sketch will be done soon.
