Old wiki version.

Hello guys! I realise this wiki hasn't yet brought over Sibling Cities of the World, which is mainly to facilitate diplomacy and commerce between cities and towns. I wonder what are people's thoughts of reinstating this, since in our real world we have sister cities after all.--Zhenkang (talk) 04:18, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Idk dude. I did not get inspiration for the name from them, I just thought of it. But its quite funny seeing three nations of similar name. That would actually be perfect. Kara, Karva, Keira all having sister cities with each other. MiniMapper (talk) 02:11, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

Reviving the sibling cities is an interesting idea. If we're going to do this, I strongly advise that we do it right and meaningfully. Here are the things I would want to see addressed in any proposal that revisits this:

1. There needs to be something meaningful on the map for these. For example, swap builds, cultural centers, etc. I'm not saying 'no' to this, but I would want to see how it can be beneficial beyond mere in-universe role-playing.
2. A simple wiki list that is easy to populate without anything meaningful is not going to be allowed. The free-for-all sign-up from last time resulted in more problems than is let on by the list. If people want to have that type of low-level connection, there are plenty of ways of incorporating it into wiki articles. (No sandboxes to attempt to skirt wiki policy.)
3. There needs to be a manageable way of updating the list as things go. We already have lists like airports and currencies that are not dynamic and need periodic culling. One of the goals (by necessity) for the wiki since the migration has been to keep things orderly and manageable. There is not a simple means of doing this via Overpass, so any system needs to account for lost countries and territory turnover.

Yeah I understand that. Truthfully the issue previously is just... yeah very symbolic. And people just adding cities/towns.

I think one way is that cities/towns added must have a substantive presence on the map and well-developed. This also prevents people just adding supposed large metropolises but they aren't detailed.

There is a provisional list on Google sheets. It seems paired cities also would need coordination with the respective owners/mappers as well. The talk page of a Sibling City list could be redirected to the relevant collab page.

Certainly there can be something meaningful on the map to illustrate such relationships. Besides cultural centres and other monuments commemorating twin relationships, there could also be economic centres to portray such links.

I also note from the Sister Cities page that the modern concept grew due to World War II, when solidarity links were established between cities in allied countries that went through similar devastating events. Perhaps this organisation would have been established similarly with the Assembly of Nations, following the OGF Great War and the "New Peace".--Zhenkang (talk) 09:40, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
