AN109, Yusuria

An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

https://ibb.co/rQPwL1G Quick sketch for where the mountains may be

Yusuria will have a tropical climate type. The island will have formed by a volcano that has since been dormant, covered by a dense (rain)forest. This is viable because a tectonic fault runs near the island. There will be a mountain range tapering to the west, allowing short rivers to exist in the western region. The western portions of the island may be rougher than the east, where luxurious beaches will be found.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

The nation's citizens will mostly comprise of Yusurian ethnicity. They will have been undisturbed by nearby peoples for a good portion of their history. Their economy will be carried by fishing and tropical crop farming. They will have also been a colony for a small portion of their history, so their infrastructure levels will be boosted by such colonization.

My idea for the mapping style will be Southeast-Asia, specifically in Indonesia and the Visayan Islands of the Philippines. Other mapping styles may be present as well.

Noun Project languages icon 105908 cc.svgHistory & culture
A brief description of the intended culture and language

As stated before, Yusuria is mostly inspired by SEA, so their culture will appear on the island. The island may have been colonized by nearby (or Ingerish) powers, so some of their cultures may have been present. Yusuria will mostly speak Yusuri, a conlang that I have been working on, and Castellanese, a clearly profound language in the area. Yusuri is currently undergoing a huge revamp, so I may only use basic vocabulary for now. The primary language of whoever colonized AN109 may have a presence on the island as well, if not already a Castellanese-speaking nation.

Hello! I am rushing to take this territory before anyone else takes it. My original plan was when I have a good amount of skill from my beginner territory, BG36 or Fridhiaris, I would have took AN101 or AN102, but these two were both taken in a quick fashion. They are now Artenie and Marize respectively. Therefore, before anyone else takes even more islands in the area, I am claiming AN109. Here, I can further develop more of my skills, especially motorway and interchange mapping. Also, by claiming AN109, I am willing to possibly give up Fridhiaris for newbies. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hi Fngf3501 and thank you for your application and convincing past mapping examples. Here are some elements of reflection/suggestions for AN109

  • Physical geography
    • Depending on what type of volcano/fault line you have in mind, this would affect the relief of the island. Some types of volcanoes also exist independently from fault lines.
    • You may choose to slightly move the volcano E/NE so that its flanks match most of the east coast bump, the peak itself still being some 10/15km inland. It will give you more flatter space and longer rivers on the southern side + this zone will be a bit more shielded from seasonal tropical rains (prevailing winds are from the NE at this latitude).
    • AN109 is located 23°S. IRL, you may found, potentially similar locations - climate wise - around southern Taiwan or Cancún (both ≈ 23°N eastern continental façade)
    • AN109 has an area of 998 km2/385 sq mi, the main island accounting for most of it. Not in the Visayas, but Marinduque has a size in the same range.
  • Human geography
    • Please consider the size of the island and the economic development you mentioned when mapping.
  • History & culture
    • If Yusuria is mostly mapped in a colang, I would suggest (it's far from being an order) you use a suffix different from the more typical English -ia ending. Yusuria may remain the English exonym.

Your application is approved. Welcome to Antarephia!
