An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar) |
In general, I’d like to continue the ideas established by the previous mapper: lots of lakes, rivers, and barrier islands, and a heavily forested interior (this means all of the existing mapping will be kept). The already existing mapping already has quite a bit of this down—especially in regards to the coastline. On the entire mainland, macro-level natural mapping is already completed or near completion, but of course work can always be done to achieve a higher level of detail.
At the source of the Brunswick River, where the trunk road enters the FSA from Astrienne, that looks looks like a nice place for a big lake and mountain town like Graydeer is right now. That’s the only big macro-level mapping project that I have planned for the territory right now, although I may add some tributaries of the Brunswick River similar to the original mapper’s sketch.
The climate will remain the same as what the original mapper intended: ~15F winter, 60-70F summer, and fairly wet.

Human geography | |

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style |
As before with natural mapping, all of the existing mapping regarding man-made structures will be kept. The total population of the state will be about 200,000. Remmington will be upgraded to a city, and its greater metropolitan area (which will span from Saint Charlotte to Saint Charles) will consist of around 100,000. Graydeer will keep its population of around 30,000, and the mountain town I mentioned earlier will also have a population of around 30,000. The remainder of the population will be dispersed across the land.
The existing roads in this territory are tagged too importantly. I plan on detagging FS-221 and demoting it to a primary road. NA-28 in Remmington will also be downgraded to a trunk road. This state only needs one motorway.
Rail infrastructure is lackluster and generally only present between Graydeer and Remmington and along the coast.
The primary industries of the state are forestry, fishing, and tourism. As such, the inner state is extremely sparsely populated and generally consists of hamlets and some small towns. Much of the coastline is protected, existing in state parks with as low as possible amounts of development. Many of the barrier islands are also protected and only accessible via ferry. The barrier islands that are not protected (probably just Irving Island and Black Island) will have sparse settlements based on fishing that are only accessible via ferry.

History & culture | |
---|---|
A brief description of the intended culture and language |
Rougemont has stronger ties to the Asperienne and Valonne (which I believe is OGF:France now) than to the FSA and Ingrea. The first settlement of Rougemont was led by Valonnese(?) settlers. In a war at some point—I don’t know Ingerish or Valonnese history, but I’m sure they fought at some point given it’s just OGF:England and OGF:France—the Ingerish seized Rougemont from the Valonnese and Rougemont gained independence with the FSA.
There has always been an independence movement in Rougemont, however past 1800 this movement has had no influence, and it is generally not taken seriously in the modern day.
There is a strong creole culture (and language!) in Rougemont among the descendants of Valonnese settlers and natives, similar to Louisiana. In Remmington and Graydeer, they have generally been assimilated into the Ingerish population, so the majority of those who identify as Rougemont creole are located in the far inland. Rougemont creole is an endangered culture and language, so scholars from around the FSA and elsewhere come to Rougemont to document the culture and language.
The University of Rougemont’s primary campus is located in Graydeer and attracts students for its renowned school of engineering. It also has a competitive basketball team. There are no major league sports teams located in Rougemont, however Remmington has a professional minor league baseball team.

The buildings and grid are a bit large, but nothing too egregious
Prior to its erasure, I also had mapping in Lorotoban, but nothing to really write home about. I also had a BG territory a couple years ago when those first became a thing, and my first town and “city” in Mecyna are still around but awful—not something I’d like to present, but if you’d like to see how much better my mapping has gotten then it should be at the beginning of my edit history.

- Please add a sketch to highlight the overall vision, including features being kept and changed. Additionally, please expand on the plans for the large barrier islands nature reserve. Thanks/wangi (talk) 08:17, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- I added the sketches, as requested. In general I'd like to keep all of the existing mapping, as most of it is of good quality, although I may delete all of the man-made mapping on the barrier islands because it seems it's all very old and not great quality. In terms of the barrier islands nature reserve, I'd like to extend a similar style of mapping of what exists now on Muskeesin Island to the other islands in the reserve. I'll include more wetlands and beaches than what currently exists on Muskeesin, though. In terms of human infrastructure on the islands, I plan to get rid of the research station on Muskeesin Island and downsize Arke and convert it to a tourist area (so, no place tag). I want to add hiking trails and campgrounds throughout the islands, so basic infrastructure (water stations, restrooms, maybe staff cabins) will come along for the ride and will be tagged with the trails and campgrounds. The primary offices for the Perchorsee reserve will be located on Irving Island, where Juinville is now, and the primary offices for the new reserve will be located on the mainland. - Waffledogefern (talk) 14:30, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
