BG22 - Havenshire

Noun Project Map icon 1463108.svgPhysical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

The climate in Havenshire is primarily an oceanic climate, due to it being bounded by the ocean on two sides. The moderation of the nearby water will lead to a very mild climate, with low temperature swings between seasons, similar to places like Florida or the Mediterranean Sea. In the south and east, the area will be somewhat marshy, with prevalent wetlands and swamps due to the large density of rivers. Moving north and west, the climate and topography will get less oceanic, with some forests and hills starting to appear, and the climate will become more akin to a humid subtropical or humid continental climate. In the far northwest, there will be a small mountain range isolating a small corner of the map inside the high peaks of the mountains, which are small enough that they don't remain snowcapped year-round, but high enough to serve as a barrier for both people and humidity from the nearby ocean. This area will be a high cold desert, similar to Mongolia or the Interior West of the USA.

Invest - The Noun Project.svgHuman geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

A majority of people will live on the coast of Havenshire, with two major population bands. One will be towns directly on the coast, with those cities having a strong economy based on tourism and fishing. The inner band will be situated on rivers right at the fall line (the farthest inland ships can travel on a river), with those cities' economies based on trade. Farther inland, most civilization will be along the rivers, with the towns in the forests based on the timber industry and the communities near the mountains as more of small mining towns. The wealth will be similarly distributed, with the major population centers along the fall line and coast being generally more affluent than the modest towns interior, and the struggling mining towns in the mountains.

Noun Project languages icon 105908 cc.svgHistory & culture
A brief description of the intended culture and language

Havenshire was settled originally in the late 17th century, as people from Archanta looked for other land to settle in. Due to this, the primary and official language is Ingerish, with small pockets of other minor languages being present in the more urban areas. A distinct dialect has developed in the more far-flung, mountainous areas of the northeast, but it is still recognized as being Ingerish. People of Havenshire are very trade-oriented, which has led to a very occupation-focused culture, where people's jobs come first.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

I haven't mapped in the beginner territory specifically, but here are a few areas of a blue territory I have mapped:

https://opengeofiction.net/#map=11/-7.1987/169.4916&layers=B - Primarily fixing some of the issues in the city as well as the suburbs of Anacostia, Marietta, Hiatt, Charlottetown, and Moonview City

https://opengeofiction.net/#map=11/-6.1752/169.7479&layers=B - Creation of the long-distance routes of the Spotswood Highway (TA 121/GZ 121/GZ 121/FE 121/EH 121/SM 121), Wilderness Highway (FE 22/AS 22/GM 22), and small hamlets and localities throughout the rural routes.

https://opengeofiction.net/#map=15/-8.6913/172.7590&layers=B - Creation of Pearl City, a project which I haven't worked on in a while, but I hope to come back to soon.

I hope that my application to the FSA was actually closed like it seemed like it was and I'm not applying for multiple territories at the same time.

Feather-core-check-square.svg Territory application approved
Approved. Reminder that BG territories are for building up mapping experience, ahead of a full application. They are not for long-term mapping. Thanks/wangi (talk) 10:57, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
As you develop your territory, be sure to keep it realistic. Here are some resources you may find useful for starting out: Help:Portal, Help:Making realistic countries, Help:Making realistic cities and OpenGeofiction:Site policies
