An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar) |
Climate
Thorley is a English-based Region meaning it would have climates similar to English regions which is more temperate with maximum temperatures in the summer being approximately 30C and lows being around 20C and in the winter these temperatures can reach a minimum of -1C but possibly anything up to -10C but this depends on the specific area with the more northern areas experiencing more snow and ice in the winter and sub temperatures of -10C but the southern regions experiencing less cold weathers and temperatures as cold as -2C and less snow and ice coverage. This would also be the same for wind speeds with many storms having higher speeds in the northern regions.
Topography
The topography in Thorley isn't too complicated with most of the territory to have rural mapping with farmlands, fields, forests and hills with villages and small towns in between the major cities which are to be mapped in some corners and the central area of the map but the specific location of the cities is to be decided once i receive the territory.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style |
Demographics
The planned demographics are simple, the territory will vary with a mixed population and diversity with people from other regions in most of the cities but in the rural areas and villages would have mostly native people and this is also to be seen in the seaside towns.
Economic Development
The overall economic development of Thorley is seen to be a high-income Region but still consists of a very dependent primary sector for local foods. Most secondary sector jobs are outsourced to LIC countries but there are still some secondary sector jobs that remain, but they are limited.
In the main cities of Thorley are to be heavily dense and the hub for quaternary and tertiary sector with services that serve the Region with more revenue and help it develop even more. In the countryside/rural areas there are more primary sector jobs mainly in farming with a wide range of farms that serve native foods to the people of Thorley and allow for home-grown food in case of any conflicts or unprecedented events.
Land Occupation
The planned land occupation for Thorley is to have a primarily rural territory with spots of major cities like most European countries.
Topography - Mostly flat, Countryside, farmlands with a mix of cities and towns in between, plan of 3 or 4 motorways to link all corners of the territory
Urban Areas - Going into details with the urban areas, most cities are proposed to have motorways or trunk roads linking primary routes within the cities and motorways linking cities but still have country roads and dual-carriageways which are non-direct still allowing for alternative routes through the Region
Rural Areas - The rural areas in Thorley are to have many farmlands and fields across the territory due to the presence of primary sector found in these areas. Some rural areas are to have major amounts of natural forestry, but these would be most likely to be found in forest reserves and in the urban-rural fringe of some cities.
Infrastructure
Road links - In terms of road links, there are to be motorways and primary routes across the whole of Thorley to help easy transport of cars, trucks and other services which are usually linked to cities. Smaller country roads are also found in other areas the motorways cannot cover, where small villages would be found. Smaller towns would be found on primary routes, and all main road links are linked where the person can travel anywhere without having to take a motorway.
Train links - In terms of train links, most train links are to link city to city and are nationwide, but they would have stations that serve rural areas, but this is uncommon, and most trains are high-speed and express. Regular commuter trains which would only need travelcards and low cost are only found in cities, but nationwide trains are more expensive.
Sea Links - In terms of sea links, the reason I picked a territory on the seaside is so i can have the ability to add ports across the coastline, but these are kept at a limit, and I only plan to add 1 major port which would serve the whole of Thorley
Air Links - In terms of air links, At the moment this is the least of my concerns but in the future i plan to add 1 or 2 international airports which would serve Thorley with major air travel but initially the region will only have regional airports which serve a limited amount of people and air travel.
The proposed plans for the territory ^
History & culture | |
---|---|
A brief description of the intended culture and language |
In the past, Thorley was dominated by the native people of Ingrea with the common language being Ingerlish but over the centuries and after many revolutions and this meant that some of the people of Kalm had migrated over to Ingrea which meant there was also some sort of dominance of Kalmish present in the region but the main language is Ingerlish. Thorley was historically dominant in agriculture and primary sector jobs and there is still a small percentage of presence of this in the region but due to globalisation and development of the region this has become limited and tertiary and quaternary sector jobs are predominant within the region. The region did have some secondary sector jobs and industries but over a century that has been outsourced to LIC countries and regions.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful | |
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL. |

Discussion for clarification & decision |
- Hello. There is a lot to like in this application, but there are a few outstanding matters first. Most of your mapping is urban or urban based, which is fine. But, your application is for a territory with a lot of rural mapping required. Can you please take some time to demonstrate this in an appropriate way within the BG territory? Next, the scale of some things in the urban mapping seems just a touch off (building sizes, proximity to the roadways, etc.). Could you take a quick look at those and see what adjustments you might make? The scale helper may be of use to you (you can find an easy link at Help:Portal). Lastly, what is the population you anticipate for the urbanised areas? Those figures will be important to consider.
- I am also going to give a touch of time for the Ingrea coordinator to weigh in on this if he so chooses. Thank you. — Alessa (talk) 18:40, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, Yes ill try do some rural mapping in the BG territory but i will need some time as i have exams and stuff coming up which may delay this and in terms of scaling most buildings are based off the sizes found in real life but i can fix the proximity to roadways but once again this may take some time and the population I'm aiming for in the whole region is around 2-2.5 million and this includes urban and rural areas but i dont mind downsizing or upsizing on this figure. Thanks — AR FKU (talk) 17:41, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- I would just like to confirm I have made the recommended changes and would like someone to review this and hopefully progress with my application. AR FKU (talk) 20:10, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
