Noun Project Map icon 1463108.svgPhysical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

Climate. The main part of the country to the south will have a similar climate to IRL Beijing, having quite seasonal climates, with it being fairly dry and getting much drier inland, to a more steppe climate. The north of the country, sheltered by a mountain range running E-W and nestled against the sea, will have a more stable, oceanic climate. Snow will be frequent across the country.

Topography. The main mountain range runs as a continuation of Izaland's north mountain range all the way to Westway. Smaller ranges run E-W in the south, roughly making up the border with Belphenia.

Landscape. The land is fairly dry, but arable and extensive farming would occur across the country.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Noen has quite a high population density of about 300 /km2 with a total population of 20million. The population is mostly urban, with the largest city having a population of about 4 million.

Noen is an ex-Ingerish colony gaining independence in the 17th century. Due to the large native population, the influence of Ingerish culture is limited, and white people make up a small proportion of the demography. However, Ingerish influence is much stronger in the north. Economically, it is developed though not as developed as neighboring Izaland. An HDI of 0.88 or so, the infrastructure is good but could still be improved.

The city layouts will mostly be similar to Japan, with very dense, irregular grids. The cities along the north coast will have a less dense layout, more similar to early British colonies like Boston.

A brief description of the intended culture and language

Language. The language of the native Enman people, Enmian, is a Nihonish based conlang. Todays dominant and official language, Nuenmian, is an Enmian-Ingerish creole, which uses the latin alphabet and a simplified grammatical structure, but retains the vocabulary and phonology of Enmian. Areas where Enmian is still dominant is common in the far south.

Culture. The north and south are very different, only united because of Ingerish colonial decisions. Both areas had an Enmian native population, though the north was much more sparsely populated. Today, there are significant cultural differences between the more Ingerish north, and more developed, populous south. The culture is notably collectivist, with a strong tradition of extended family households and local community rituals. Democracy is enshrined within the conscience of the people, and despite cultural and economic differences, there is little discrimination between the north and south.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

I have previously mapped the nation of Tengappei, a country more closely based off irl Japan. I have now lost this territory (and am wanting to restart anyway), though you can see examples of my mapping there.

Rural: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=12/20.2926/87.9968&layers=B (most of my rural/ geography mapping in Tengappei has been deleted, though you can still see some of the rivers and forests)

I haven't really mapped at all for the past few years, but I have now graduated university and found a job, and am finding I have more free time, particularly on weekends. I'm willing to map more in blue countries to prove I can be active again, however I have limited access to JOSM for the next month or so, so I would prefer to focus on planning a new country which I don't need JOSM for.

  • Hello Gubble, welcome back and congratulations for your graduation! Thank you for your application. Your past mapping qualifies you for a new personal territory. The sketch you provided is very convincing, original and suitable to the region, as is the culture, history and climate (perhaps check out East Uletha Concept and the global climate consensus if you haven't yet; Beijing and steppe seems a tiny bit on the dry end for me, but that's certainly withing your wiggle room as a territory owner). Happy mapping, Leowezy (talk) 20:24, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
