Revised FS Business Route Shield Design

Hello! I'm offering a proposed revision to update the FS Business Route shields by adding words to clarify their purpose. RhodeIslandWV (talk) 01:30, 8 August 2025 (UTC)

I think these are perfectly fine as an alternate shield to the solid green one. I support a measure that would allow states to choose these as an option while not outright replacing the solid-green shield. I also like that the word on the bottom can be flexible (loop, spur, route, etc.), which does add for the ability for states to define how they want to use them if they even have such a classification. — Alessa _(talk) 16:19, 30 August 2025 (UTC)

I've thought more of this, and I'm actually less in favor of having it as an option. If it were any design other mirroring the motorway shield with white letters, I'd be adamantly opposed at this point. How exactly would these be tagged in order to differentiate them on the map, be it Americana or otherwise? PoisonDog522 (talk) 19:09, 30 August 2025 (UTC)

From my understanding it is quite easy to have a predefined shield that can apply to anything in a similar "network" on the Americana map. So, if there is enough desire to do it, I believe we could ask Infinatious to include it as he has other custom shields. It would be up to him to do the work, so I would not take that for granted. As for the mechanical on our side, however, it is something we could do easily. For example, if we were to have network=FSA:FS:BUS as the nationwide 'generic' solid-green, we could potentially also have network=FSA:FS:BL, network=FSA:FS:BS, and network=FSA:FS:BR for loops, spurs, and other routes explicitly defined. From that standpoint, it is quite simple. Beyond the Americana map, it is mostly lore otherwise. — Alessa _(talk) 01:47, 31 August 2025 (UTC)

Since the motorway system does not allow for spur routes in general, it is unlikely that Business Spurs would be prevalent or even encouraged, and since there would only be “loops”, it seems superfluous to change the shields. -TheMayor (talk) 16:02, 31 August 2025 (UTC)

The reason why I am suggesting this is because it seems like not many people are clear as to why the basic green shields mean, plus it will be more logical using this shield as it tells you what it is, especially in the context of a driver, as he may dee a green shield and not know what it is, this helps show what is it, and why you see Interstate and regular business routes use it. Regarding the "business spurs", I do plan to have some of those in my state, mainly to serve a community not directly by a motorway. RhodeIslandWV (talk) 16:54, 31 August 2025 (UTC)
