189798 - Capitán (Federation of)Capitán is a federation of four main islands (and some more smaller islands). The islands are similar in geography. The largest island, Capitán is home to three mountain ranges, The Pinnacle Mountains (Gran Pico), the Saint George Mountains (Saint Jorge) and the Flesh Mountains (Montañas De Carne). The rest of the island is mostly forested with meadows and fams dotted across the landscape. Towns and villages are densely stitched together in South Capitán. In North Capitán (and the rest of the islands except Fernando Sound) population is much scarcer in the countryside, but gets very dense in urban areas. The region has a Tropical Rainforest Climate (Af on the Köppen-Geiger Climate Classification)

below is a sketch of Capitán. It includes some lore for the islands, mountains, provinces, parishes, and major cities.

This application was copied and pasted from a previous one for AN144 - which is exclusively an island. My apologies for any innacuracies.Hersey is the mainland in the country. Inspired by Jamaica and other Caribbean nations, it is mountaineous in the centre and flatter around the coast. The coast is densely forested, primarily moist forest which is found theoughout the region. Agriculture on Hersey is limited to large farms which are well regulated by the government. Hersey, while based on the caribbean islands will have some western african influence.
https://imgur.com/94jHO3Y<nowiki/>The country in total has a population of around 5.5 Million. The largest city is Damia, in South Capitán. In order of population, the other major cities are as follows: Debut, New Ledbury, Capia, Hersey City, Port Gai. Debut is the capital, and judicial centre of the country. Damia is the economic centre. Port Gai is regarded as the largest settlement in the country with no colonial influence.

Capitán (being all of the islands) are similar in geography, on a smaller scale.
Public transit is left up to provincial governments, meaning some will have better connection than others.

below is a sketch of the regions. Cities, municipalities and island names are also marked. The sketch was rushed due to time constraint.
Railway transport only exists in Capitán and Hersey, ran by National Railways, the Hersey Railroad, the Damia Transit Authority or the Capitol Rapid Transit (CaRT). A series of ferries connect the islands.

Administratively, the country is divided into six provinces, North Capitán, South Capitán, Fernando Sound, Limain Island, Burnsey Shore and New Ledbury. These provinces are further divided into parishes or city districts.

edit: just realised the western part of TA024 is a desert, not mountains. I won't put mountains there. The country in total has a population of around 4.3 Million. About 800,000 of these people live in the capital city of Port Nesoi (Nesoi being the Greek godesses of islands) Outside of Port Nesoi, the two other cities include: Kingsboro (Hersey), Porthouse (Hersey), Gantrey (Hersey), Damia (Capitán) and Ville Grande (Capitán). Smaller towns and villages are scattered throughout, mostly along the coast. Capitán gets lots of tourists every year, who come to see the beautiful beaches and colourful towns. Foreign investors have built resorts across the country but in recent years the government has been denying them construction as they interfere with the lives of the locals. The other main source of income for Hersey is its usage as a tax haven for lots of Antarefia (hoping to collaborate with others on the inclusion of some global companies on Hersey) which resulted in an economic boom in the '90s that is still being felt today. Suddenly, the country went from an impiverished island to a bustling economy. Construction is constant, and the Highway Commision has been developing better roads across the country.
The population in Hersey is rising steadily, as more work becomes available. The country (especially Hersey) is attractive to companies due to its well educated workforce, low corporation tax and the fact that Ingerish is spoken. Capitán is regarded as a tax haven, and I hope to collaborate with some Tarephian countries to set up int'l headquarters in cities like New Ledbury.

Railway transport only exists in Hersey, ran by National Railways, the Hersey Railroad or the Capitol Rapid Transit (CaRT). Otherwise, much of the population relies on car or the well connected bus network. A series of ferries connect Hersey and Capitán.
Tourism is a major money-maker in Capitán, accounting for 20% of the country's income. The main holiday destinations are Fernando Sound and Limain, though tourists also visit the other parts of the country. Its beautiful beaches and clear seas attract tourists from across the world. The largest and busiest airport in the country is Damia Moreno International Airport.Cultures are mainly outlined here: https://imgur.com/94jHO3Y

Administratively Hersey and Capitán each have their own Municipal Governments, officially the Capitán Republic and the Hersey Republic. Lower down, these municipalities are divided into Counties (in Hersey) and Parishes (in Capitán).
The native culture of the island, mostly found in Limain and remote parts of Capitán and Hersey is based on a conlang I am currently working on. The natives are not pagans and were converted sometime in the past.

The population in Hersey is rising steadily, as more work becomes available. Until recently, when Fort James University was opened in Kingsboro, citizens had to go to Port Nesoi to get a college education (whose university was only founded in 1965). The country is attractive to companies due to its well educated workforce, low corporation tax and the fact that Ingerish is spoken.Hersey and Capitán have different cultures as they were colonised by different countries. Capitán speak a version of Romantish and follow Catholicism while Hersey speaks mainly Ingerish (a local dialect of course) and follows Protestantism. ~early 1800s the two colonies joined forces in a revolution for independence and after a long war finally achieved it. They were united as one country, Princetopia (the colonial name for the region) until 1928 when the name was officially changed.
South Capitán had a revolution in 1885, forming the Republic of Capitán. Fernando Sound remained part of its empire until 1905 when it was liberated by its neighbours to the North, which started a five-year-long war. When the Empire and Capitán had finally come to an agreement, the islands were devistated by its effects. Shortly after this, in 1912, people desperate to be looked after better by their government staged a coup. The new government, lead by Sebastian Rojas was a military dictatorship. Rojas spent more money on improving the lives of his citizens, but he also committed attrocities such as the Limain Invasion in 1923 (when towns in Limain were burned to the ground in a Capitán conquest) and the Garza Massacre in 1925 when he had his soldiers open fire on a group of protestors. The Ingerish eventually intervened in 1930, invading the three islands from their colony of Hersey. The invasion was to restore peace to the archipeligo. The invasion was ultimately a success, and Rojas was imprisoned, and later exiled. In 1964, Hersey was released and chose to join Capitán, whose economy was growing steadily.

There was a devistating hurricane and a short period of famine shortly after this which made global headlines. Hurricane Marley destroyed all the crops and caused major damage to the towns and cities, displacing many families. It took thirty years for the country to return to pre-1928 standards.

In 1942, there was a five-year-long civil war between Hersey and Capitán, in which Capitán briefly broke off as an independent republic. Order was restored only through a foreign invasion of the country by (insert major power). When the area gained independence again they were divided in two countries, Hersey and the People's Republic of Capitán until 1974, when Capitán agreed to join Hersey (in exchange for semi-autonomy) to help its failing economy. Capitán was industrialised rapidly between 1975 and 1990, which created atleast half a million jobs for the struggling population.

Today, Capitán still lags behind Hersey in almost everything but lots of money is being invested into its future.

* Hi, the TA admin recently stepped down, and applications are currently not being accepted for the continent. Given the application was made before this, I will consider it. However, I have reduced the scope of the application to one of the territories. Please rework the application with this in mind, plus using the information at OpenGeofiction:Tarephia#North Tarephia to guide the culture. Thanks/wangi (talk) 08:22, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

* I've updated the application and changed the culture and geography to fit it. Thanks for helping. If this gets accepted, I presume BG36 will be wiped clean. Thanks again, Veni Vidi Vici (talk) 16:43, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful.
The coord, node, relation or scalehelper templates can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - they result in nicely formatted links. Or you can paste in a URL.

I have been mapping in BG36: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=10/16.1059/-107.4477&layers=B for a while now using JOSM and the further west you go the more recent the mapping is. I would also like for The town of Stricture to be moved to Hersey and help with how to do this.
