An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar) |
The state of Keewata is located on an isthmus dividing Lake Betaouais from Lake Sauganash. The highest point is around 500–600 meters above sea level, and there are many creeks and lakes throughout the state. I have made a sketch of the waterways and bodies of water that would be visible from space. The landscape resembles that of Michigan, as the state is based on parts of Michigan and the Champaign area of Illinois (for the inland rural area). There are some state parks protecting the environment in places such as the mapped )?) Bell Island. There's many swamps in the south-eastern part of the state. The state is also pretty forested, like MI.
About the climate, I don't know about winters, but the weather would be mild, with winters a bit cold, and summers warm.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style |
The state of Keewata has a population of about 800,000 people. A large portion (around 300,000) live in the largest city and capital, Wapeton, which is situated at the mouth of the River Tenohasha. The second-largest city is Meercke Bay (population 140,000), followed by Petersville (70,000) and Tenohasha (60,000).
The motorway network connects the major cities, while a few trunk roads link larger towns. Primary roads connect villages with nearby towns and cities. The largest settlement classified as a “town” in OSM terms is Bay City (population 30,000), located near the Sundry Peninsula—a name I’ve assumed from the Minnonigan side. I’ve also drawn some inspiration from other places in OGF, such as taking the name Triglav from Suria for one of Keewata’s towns.
In terms of energy, most of Keewata’s power comes from hydroelectricity, primarily from the Vermillion Lake Power Plant. There are also numerous solar power facilities across the state.
I still haven't discussed with neighbors, but I think there could be a ferry service connecting main cities on the lakes.

A brief description of the intended culture and language |
English is the dominant language spoken in Keewata, used in government, education, and everyday life. Due to its location and history, there is also a noticeable presence of French place names, especially in older settlements along the lakeshores, as well as some Ojibwe- and Menominee-derived names for rivers, villages, and natural features.
Culturally, Keewata shares similarities with the Great Lakes region of the United States, especially Michigan and northern Illinois. Local traditions often center around outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and ice sports in winter. Small-town festivals are common in the summer months, often celebrating regional foods, the lakes, and local history.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful. | |
The {{coord}}, {{node}}, {{relation}} or {{scalehelper}} templates can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - they result in nicely formatted links. Or you can paste in a URL. |
Some of my past mapping projects include the following, although not many, as I have only recently joined OpenGeofiction and have spent most of my time (the previous ~20 days) deciding on the mapping style I want to use. As I previously stated, the state will mainly be based on Michigan:
- Third Lake, BG – https://opengeofiction.net/#map=16/14.1907/-112.7919&layers=5 — I spent a lot of time thinking about this town; all buildings are mapped by hand, except for a few copy-pasted in newer developments. I plan to move this to the state if accepted. Alt name for town: Chanute.
- Isthmus, BG – https://opengeofiction.net/#map=16/14.2115/-112.5829&layers=5 — A work in progress, but here’s the town layout so far.
- Latham, BG – https://opengeofiction.net/#map=13/13.7206/-111.7592&layers=5 — An unfinished bypass network, inspired by Midland, MI.
If there are anymore questions, do ask! Also, if It's possible, how do I make a PLSS grid for the state? Is there some kind of tool to do that? Sorry.

Greetings! Surian coordinator here. While it is possible for Southwestern Federal States to have Surian colonizers/minority (or any other reason to name a new town after a city in Suria), Triglav was founded only in 1960-1962 when Suria was a hardline communist state. Alternatively, you may use Radogost, the largest city in Suria, for a town name. /-- Sudo91 (talk) 18:48, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
