The Territory ID (from OpenGeofiction:Territories, e.g. AR123a) and proposed name of the country |
UL12k - Soderia
Physical geography | |
---|---|
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar) |
Attached on the right is a general map of my plan for this country.
The territory is made up of a rocky coast, a flatter (but still somewhat mountainous) island, and some assorted smaller islands. Being in the temperate/taiga biome, the climate is fairly cold and most of the trees are coniferous.
The tallest mountains in the south are over 2000 metres in height, but the mountains on the Major Island (name to be chosen) are around 1000-1500 metres in height. This is consistent to the Vinhish Catens mountain range from the West Ulethan map.
Please note that I intend to move or remove much of the existing mapping on this territory.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style |
Economic Development:
Raw goods include mining, agriculture, and forestry.
There is also a manufacturing and small tourism sector
Politics:
Multiparty Parliamentary Democratic Republic.
Terminology: Leader, Deputy Leader, Evaluators
Mapping Style:
European / Unique Style
The capital city of Tidford contains the vast majority of Soderia's 1.2 million people. It is quite a dense city.
There are other larger towns of Gorel, Burnfoy, and Dinuel in addition to a large multitude of small towns and agricultural villages in the western plains of the major island.
Due to the diverse coastal climate, there are winter sports available on Major Island and the "Rocky Mountainous Coast"

A brief description of the intended culture and language |
This territory could be mapped in either two/three languages, depending on the request of the coordinators (what they think would be more realistic:
1- English
PROS:
It is the language I am fluent in, so mapping in it will be more cohesive and realistic than perhaps a different language
It appears to be plausible that an English speaking country could exist here, as it is in the "Germanic Languages" section and English is a Germanic Language.
CONS:
Not precise (not very close to Ingeria)
2- Conlang 1
This conlang is very different (initial wordset is randomized) and has a unique style probably unlike anything in the region. West Uletha is stated to be "Conlang Friendly"
3- Conlang 2
This conlang is much less different to English, and pretty much is English, but with more stringent pronunciation, writing, and grammar rules (in fact pretty similar to a previous application to this territory)
***
The culture will be European-esque (though I will admit that it will be my first time mapping this way seriously). The capital city will have some areas mapped in an extremely old style, though other areas will be more modern, having been more recently developed.
**** HISTORY ****
Key Points:
- People were not very expansionist, so country stayed small
- Mostly stayed on the fertile major island until relatively recently
- Originally was a monarchy, but the monarchy became quite oppressive
- Major revolution in 1872, only to be replaced with a dictatorship until 1878
- Now politically is a democratic republic.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful | |
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL. |
Most of my mapping has been done here:
https://opengeofiction.net/#map=8/-43.622/136.467&layers=B
Ateria, Deodeca (mapped from March 2022 - Present)
Oldest (and probably worst) mapping here:
https://opengeofiction.net/#map=12/-8.3194/173.9112&layers=B
Kelby, Inolokala, Rhododactylia
The Elephant - Double Territories This would be my second territory if approved. Due to its small size, I don't think that the approval of this territory would cause me to be overwhelmed enough to ignore duties from my first territory.

- Hello! I am not an admin but may i recommend using layers on your map image? I have no clue what software you used for the creation of the image but things like the text could be layered above the other items. Just hope this helps in the future! MiniMapper (talk) 19:44, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- I used Microsoft Paint for the image, so there aren't any layers. I may have to draw it all again. Enderbyte09 (talk) 15:52, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
Hello, Enderbyte. Thank you for the application. There are two primary things before we move forward with the application. Most of your mapping right now is very much non-European. Would you be willing to do a small demonstration for us of what you would like to do, just to we can ensure visual/cultural fit? You'd be welcome to do it in Ingrea's open collab area∈⊾ (just let Pawl know before you do), or you could do it in a NUPDZ hexagon (we could relocate it if approved).
The second thing is the language. I understand that English would be your first choice, but it doesn't really fit here. We have Ingrea for a reason. The language preference here is either a conlang or a Germanic language that is closer to or found in either Scandinavia or eastern Germanic areas. A Germanic conlang would be fine too, provided it isn't too close to English. Anyway, let's work on the demonstration first and can talk about the language next. If the mapping is appropriate for the region, I think we can find something agreeable regarding language. — Alessa (talk) 19:23, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, Alessa, I have mapped some European data in the New User Practice Zone. Could you please evaluate it? Enderbyte09 (talk) 23:40, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, Enderbyte. Thank you for mapping something. It is quite a small sample size with regards to content and demonstration, but it gives me a glimpse for now.
- Unfortunately, I am not seeing much in the way of different European-themed mapping styles. There are some vague resemblances, but the majority of the work looks more like planned communities in the western Anglosphere than European. I would expect to see some type of old-town core—likely with a church, important historic government building, fortifications, or some type of public square (or combination thereof). Since you are doing a coastal-heavy application, there should be some type of harbour construct, even if only for recreational vessels in modern times. That is just scratching the surface of the theme. There are also some serious scale issues with turn radii of railroads, roads, etc. Much of the scale would require significant work. I'm afraid there's not really something here that I can say would fit.
- In light of that, I think it is proper to close this for now. I'm absolutely willing to see you reapply in the future, once you've had a chance to really work on things on this level. Given what you are interested in, I would suggest joining the Ingrea collab area (Region 7), so that you can get a feel for things, work on it with neighbors, and also have some fun with UK-themed mapping. Collabs are great for this and also to be able to try out things for the future.

Demonstration mapping does not show use of necessary theme and has significant scaling issues. Keep up practice, consider joining a collab, and we can revisit this in the future. |
