Proposed map for Adhukën here

Description of the image:

The country in general has a temperate, tropical/sub-tropical climate. The green and yellow lines mark the border in between climate types. From the yellow line up, it is mainly desert or a dry climate. Between the yellow and the green line, it is mainly a steppe region with occasional forests. From the green line down, it is a wet climate (mainly due to its proximity to the sea, or sometimes to rivers.

The relief is mainly plain, with only two major mountain ranges in the country, depicted in brown in the image previously attached. The most important rivers (depicted in blue in the map) run from west to east, where they meet the sea, and starting from the Mountain Range 1.

Proposed map for Adhukën here (the same link as in the previous section).

The capital city of Adhukën is Inselsee, a city mainly in the lake and only urban core with over 1 M inhabitants in the steppe region. Red dots in the linked map represent the proposed location for cities (they are subject to change)

The majority of Adhukën's population, though, is concentrated in the regions next to the sea, where the land occupation is very high. The total population of the country is around 55 M people, of which around 30 M live in the wet region, the desert is very scarcely populated.

The economic development is fairly high, it can be compared to Spain or Czech Republic.

Tha mapping style I'll use will ressemble Spain but adequating it to the characteristics of the country, especially it'll be based in the regions of Catalonia and Aragon.

A brief description of the intended culture and language

The history of Adhukën is concentrated around the "wet climate region", and also the city of Inselsee, principally the cities in this area have an "Old City" neighbourhood and historical buildings. Most of the cities in the steppe region and the desert region are relatively new.

The history of the country ressembles French history, so there are a fair number of castles, palaces and churches throughout the country and in the cities.

The language is mainly English, but Spanish is also spoken in some limited areas because of historical reasons.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

I have held a Begi territory during the past year and a half (BG02) where you can find proof of my mapping skills.

Urban mapping > My greatest example of urban mapping is Inselsee.

Rural mapping > Basically the Junctionham region, but any part of the BG02 territory might be OK.

Link to BG02 territory here.

Discussion for clarification & decision

REQUEST:

I don't want to give up some of my mapping regions because of the time I've inverted into them.

I would appreciate it a lot if you could move the following edits to the new territory in case the application is accepted:

- The whole Inselsee city & the lake (link) to approximately here.

- Replacing this coast in the UL26f territory with the East coast from BG02 (from Harring-sur-Mer to Dindörf, including all the Junctionham region all the way to Zeptorr)

- Moving the city of Megapolis (link) to approximately here.

That's all, thank you!

Dear Ouponamap, thank you for your territory application. First things first: your mapping in the Beginner territories is very nice and absolutely qualifies you for a private territory. Also, I'm happy to move mapping from your BG territory to your new private territory, once that is decided, as there is indeed some substantial mapping there already.

There are a couple of issues with your application I'd like to raise, in descending order of importance:

  • For East Uletha, we worked out the East Uletha Concept. This is to ensure a minimum of regional cohesion, for example that language patters are somewhat believable. Sector UL26 is set aside for "South Asian (Indian) and (mostly native) Austronesian" cultures. There is certainly wiggle room with these target-culture-themes, but a territory with continental European culture (French) and English/Spanish language would not fit in this wider region, especially not without a history of colonialisation, which you don't mention so far. There are many other areas for such themes, especially in West Uletha (for a European feel) and in pockets of Tarephia and Archanta (for a more "New World" feel). Have a look around the world map or let me know if you would like some suggestions.
  • The geography you propose has a few issues, which will need a little more work; no matter if you will apply for a different territory than UL26f or stay with this territory to apply for. Most importantly, your rivers behave unusual. Rivers (almost) always from the mountains to the sea, and while there can be deltas close to the shore, they don't fork that much inland and that often. Instead, lots of streams from different mountains flow together, making bigger and bigger rivers until they reach the shore. I'd encourage you to have a look at this resource about how to make realistic countries, it is a step-by-step guide that will help you with a better river system and consecutive steps, such as placing cities. The climate would also need some further tweaking, but we can deal with that later.
  • Please sign your posts placing 4 "~"-symbols at the end of your message, they will be converted to a signature upon posting, just like mine.

You can find most of the sources I linked and many more also on our OpenGeofiction:Dashboard.

I hope you don't feel discouraged by my lengthy reply; I'm sure you can improve your plans in no time and that we will find a territory that matches your taste and plans. All the best, Leowezy (talk) 18:52, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words!

I assume I can't just fix the "Concept problem" by introducing a colonial history and changing some city names, right?

In that case, could you suggest me any available territory you know that fits my mapping style and plans?

As for the river problems, I can sort them out easily, but I'm grateful that you have let me know about it.

Thank you for your help!

Hello,

I wouldn't even call it a "problem", there are plenty of places that would benefit greatly from the type of mapping you are envisioning :) TA102, 103, 112 and other territories in Tarephia were mentioned by Bixel, they would be a great match in terms of English and Spanish language. Depending on where in Tarephia you are, all kind of tropical to savanna and dessert climates could be thinkable, see [1]. Feel free to shoot the respective regional admins a message if you are interested in any particular territories or seek further guidance (in case they miss this conversation). Thanks again for the dedication!

I'd like to apply for TA112 territory. Do I have to start another territory application forum?

Ouponamap (talk) 08:25, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

Yes, that would be a new territory application. I'll go ahead and close this one then. Leowezy (talk) 08:55, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
