Map of TA330 Woolloons Republic

Woolloons is a republic in the south of Tarephia.  It is bordered by Tigeria to the north, the Sea of Oridica to the east, the Strait of Lyc to the south, and the Soboko Republic to the west.  The defining feature of Woolloons is the Long Lake, a narrow lake in a valley created by the same tectonic faults which separate the Cinq Îles of Tigeria from the mainland.

The Tigerine Mountains of Tigeria continue into Woolloons and divide the nation into east, central, and west regions.  The east is characterized by the Long Lake and the Long Hills, the center is defined by the Êtureil River.  The west is known for the Euthailun Desert in the northwest and Woolloons Bay in the southwest.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

The capital of Woolloons is Néroli.  Located in the south near the mountain passes into the Long Lake and Êtureil River valleys, it is a popular location for merchants to move goods inland.

Shepherd Arms is the largest city.  It’s a center for defense, manufacturing, fishing, and agriculture.  Most of the population is within ten miles of the coast.  Woolloons remained part of Franqueterre for many centuries and was one of the last Franquese colonies to be granted independence in the 1970s.

A brief description of the intended culture and language

Woolloons was sparsely populated for many centuries as land for farming was very limited. The first settlements on the coasts were several small fishing villages of the coastal Tigerine tribes.

When the Bai explorers passed through the Strait of Lyc, many of small settlement were overlooked, and the Bai people founded the city of Ng Lung in Woolloons Bay.  For centuries, the city and region struggled to survive amidst famine and natural destruction, and Ng Lung came close to abandonment many times.

When the Franquese arrived, they called the land Oulouns (a corruption of Ng Lung), introduced sheep to the region and founded the city of Bras Pastoraux, the shepherds' city, from which they established a wool trade to provide textiles to the region. Woolloons then became part of the expanding Franquese empire.  Due to its distance from the center of the empire, its lack of fertile land, and its apparent lack of natural resources, Woolloons was not invested in by the empire for many centuries.

The Great War brought much change to Woolloons, and the nation underwent an industrial boom to support the Franquese war effort.  Woolloons was granted independence during this time to prevent it from being used as collateral to pay off Franquese war debts.  However, Bras Pastoraux was captured by the Federal States for its strategic location and renamed to Shepherd Arms.  The city remained under Federal States control and became a military arsenal for the Federal States operations in the Tarephias until the early 2020s when the city was transferred to Woolloons in 2021.

Today, much of the east coast is Federal States-influenced, with modern motorways connecting the coastal cities.  The center and west and primarily grasslands and ranchlands for shepherding.  The Shepherd Arms Air Force Base continues to be on lease to the Federal States and is a major source of income for Woolloons.

Hi Chazeltine. While I think TA330 is a reasonable claim to stake, I do have my concerns about this application; in particular about the involvement of the FSA. Already, Tigeria contains Bai, Franquese and a variety of other cultural references - some of which clash with the surrounding area; though we've spoken about this in the past. However, I really don't think that adding an American flavour to this region makes a lot of sense from a cohesion standpoint as well as a historical standpoint - simply put, there's very little reason to assume within the established canon of the region the FSA to have had any influence in this region at any point, let alone as late as the 2020's. Rather than this new country which would bring with it a variety of new history and cultures that may or may not be reasonable (I personally seriously oppose the FSA having essentially any physical influence over Tarephia), I'd be much less opposed to having Tigeria absorb TA330; but under the condition that this leads to a territory that is, overall, more cohesive. A melting pot is a great overall concept, but it performs best if either, the various cultures blend together to meld into a whole, or if there is a clear dividing line between them. (Also, when proposing the name of a country where the economy seems to be substantially based around sheep herding... don't make it "Woolloons". "Nomen est omen" rarely holds up when it comes to geography.) Taka (talk) 19:33, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
