After 1965 Dregolesian Revolution, countries north of Suria decided to make an anti-Surian Union. Lany, Geklinia-Dregolesia and Dregovine signed a pact in Nedelica in 1967. Since then, cooperation with other pact members grew. In 1992 border checkpoints were taken down, allowing free travel between the three countries.

Landform

The Lany coast stretches for over 1,000 kilometres and has nearly 50 islands and islets and most of them are located further north. The largest island, Obława, stretches for 135 kilometers and has an area of over 2500 km². Obława together with other islands lying on the western side of the Great Rift, moves away from the mainland by 2 cm every year. Following this pattern, the Obława began to break away from the mainland around 2500-4000 years ago, and separated completely 1,500 years ago.

Transport

Shipping

Maritime transport plays a crucial role in the economy and international connectivity of the country. The largest and most important seaports are the ports in Basidwór and Kestrzanowo, which handle international cargo and passenger trade. These are typically deep-water ports capable of accommodating very large vessels, including the ro-ro ferries of BJN North Star, which operate passenger lines to Czarny Brzeg and Kardom (Velticia), the Nieski Islands flag.PNG Nieski Islands, Jiemie (Silland country flag.png Silland), and Jöhksvard (FlagSápvuodmá.png Sapvuodma).

Local maritime and inland transport also play an important role. The ferry network between Basidwór, Solniczna, Ƶarzyń, and Kalonia provides connections between the mainland and the islands. Meanwhile, the most important inland connection is the ferry on Lake Bryź which shortens the journey from Nieziany to the mountains and vice versa.

Ports

Dotted along the coast, ports have transshipment hubs, enabling the transfer of goods from trucks and trains to ships and vice versa in a Lo-Lo mode. Ports in Basidwór, Kestrzanowo, Solniczna and Ƶarzyń have special infrastructure that allows trains to be loaded onto ferries in an efficient roll-on-roll-off manner, where freight and passenger trains are pushed onboard train ferries without reloading, from where they sail to/from Velticia or other countries in the region.

Train ferries are the only form of transporting trains across the Great Rift, although in February 2024 Geklinia-Dregolesia became interested in building an underwater tunnel in the narrowest section of the strait, but as it is still a site of tectonic movements, this idea remains on paper for now.

Railways

The country has a fairly dense railway network, facilitating the transport of passengers and goods from the east and south to the north and west.

Motorways and expressways

Lanian intercity road infrastructure is compiled of dozen national roads, several trunk roads and three highways A1, A2 and A7.

Airways

Air transport from all national airports is handled by the national carrier LanAir, which was founded in 1926. Since 1946, it has also been operating flights with amphibious aircrafts.

After 1966, the next important player in the aviation market became Air Nedelica, a low-cost carrier flying between the countries of the Nedelica Union.

Culture

Language

The Lanian language is the progenitor of the modern Veltic language, or is an early branch of it. However, it is not certain whether it appeared in the area of Łany together with Velticians or before them.
