Noun Project Map icon 1463108.svgPhysical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

In general, the territory is mountainous on the eastern and western borders and generally flat in the center. The mountains on the western border are by far the largest of the two sets and take up quite a bit of the territory. Much of the southwest of the territory will be mountainous. In the east, the mountains are not as widespread however they are still notable. Both of these sets of mountains will have many river valleys and there will be quite a few sets of river valleys. In addition to the large sets of mountains, there is one small mountain range in the south. It will likely follow the same pattern as the other bands of mountains in Ruppacke it is associated with.

The climate of the territory will likely be temperate. The latitude of the territory is roughly the same as the southern half of the continental US and the eastern mountains will not be high enough to create a rain shadow. The mountains will, of course, be colder, but not significantly colder than the flat areas. The temperature difference will likely only be 40-50F lower at the highest points and maybe around 5F lower on average.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

The population will be around 4,500,000, with the majority of the population in the center of the state and in the area around Huntington. The mountains will be sparsely populated, however small towns will appear in some of the river valleys throughout the mountains. The southern half (very roughly) will also be more sparsely populated than the northern half of the territory. However, there will be a large town or potentially small city at the railway intersection at OGFmapicon.png 39.4621°S, 156.9774°E. In regards to the motorways and railways, I plan on connecting them as best I can across the state. The motorways will be easy to connect because of the ref, but the railways are quite unclear so I'll try to route those as best I can.

The notable cities included on the map:

- Bluegill is the large town/small city mentioned before that sits near the large railway junction on the Bluegill River. The population will likely be around 50,000-100,000.

- Elktown is the largest city in Portsmark, with a population of approximately 1,000,000 to 1,500,000. Despite its status as the largest city, it is not the capital. It resides at a large intersection of motorways in the center of the state, just west of the eastern mountains.

- Wingacaribee is the capital of Portsmark, with a population of approximately 250,000 to 500,000. It is just outside of Huntington. This town exists right now as mapping from a previous owner, so I will either repurpose the existing mapping or move the city slightly farther south outside of the mapped area and start anew, keeping the current mapping (mostly) intact.

The vast majority of the land of Portsmark is used for farming, especially in the southern half of the state. The mountainous areas are primarily geared towards tourism, with many towns in the mountains being created exclusively for that reason. In the winter, the mountains are popular with tourists from other states as there are several ski resorts and other snow-related activities throughout both sets of mountains.

The state is, of course, mapped in a USA style. See western Virginia, West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, and eastern Tennessee; these regions are all similar to what I am going for.

A brief description of the intended culture and language

I'm not too familiar with FSA history, and what I can find on the wiki is pretty barebones. I assume Portsmark will earn its independence (likely as a territory) after whatever the FSA revolution was due to its proximity to Huntington. I could see, if Huntington was cut out of states like Washington was, the majority of the Capital Region being taken from Portsmark or whatever the territory was at the time (if it was a part of one). I don't want to decide too much on the state's history before an outline of history for the entire FSA has been discussed.

The culture of the state will be pretty similar to the southeastern United States; probably a bit more inland, think Tennessee and Kentucky. The state will likely not be too notable for much outside of its vast mountains, which attract tourists from around the country. A lot of the economy of the state during the winter time depends on these tourists in the mountains. The mountains contain many attractions like ski resorts and snow sports complexes, as well as vast state parks with tours for sightseers.

The language will, of course, be English. The state is just far enough from the shore that it doesn't attract very many immigrants, meaning other languages are much less likely to enter into the state.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

OGFmapicon.png BG35 - Here I made some urban mapping and some rural mapping in the south, as well as some natural mapping.

OGFmapicon.png Toluilla, Lorotoban - When Lorotoban was still a collection of beginner territories, I created this state. I made about all of the mapping on the mainland and most of the mapping on the islands.

OGFmapicon.png Pigeon, Michisaukee - I made this a few months ago. I made everything inside of the administrative boundary, as well as the nature preserve above it.

In addition to these, I had a past beginner territory that was wiped about a year ago and I did some mapping in Mecyna somewhere.

Hello, thank you for submitting this request. After conferring with my co-admin and the FSA coordination team, based on your current mapping efforts we have chosen not to approve your application until you're able to build up a more robust edit history with more examples of natural mapping, which this application request relies heavily upon. Since you already have a BG territory, we encourage you to continue mapping there and, once your edit history supports an FSA state application, you will be able to move your mapping from your current territory to the FSA. Additionally, in the meantime you're also welcome to build your edit history (and your experience in the Federal States) by requesting to join a collaborative project. Based on your interests listed above, you may be interested in New Carnaby or Eustacia. --TheMayor (talk) 23:19, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
