Metropolitan Valony's geography defining element is the 300km-wide fertile River Yse plain (Valonian: Plaine Ysérianne) that splits the country in east and west halves, from the Pretanic Lake to the Mesambric Sea. The declivity in this area is generally low, Lake Glois (Valonian: Lac de Glois) sits at 130m (AMSL) some 400km north of the Mesambric Sea. River Yse is a long and mighty silty river that drains a large portion of central West Uletha, including two of its major lakes, and flows through the capital city Nemans and Valony's main seaport: Rivador. The Yserian Plain is edged, in most places, by rolling hills propitious to farming. This landscape gives way to higher foothills closer to the mountain ranges.
The various massifs of the Great Catens form most of Valony's western borders. Most of the massifs tend to be well-defined by large valleys and low mountain passes, enabling easy transportation to and from its neighbours. Located in the southern section of the the Valonian Great Catens, the Lady of the Sky (Valonian: Dame du Ciel) is Valony's highest point at 5726m. In the north, a secondary chain, the Hélion Massif, rises from the Avière River plain, follows a northward direction and joins the Main Great Catens chain near the border with Atresia. In the east, the central regions are dominated by the Orionnaz Massif that form part of the border with Plevia.
