Arque Desert Festival
The Arque Desert Festival is one of the world's oldest active endurance racing, held every two year since 1927 traditionally the second week of august in the Désert d'arque in Lorredion. It is one of the most prestigious and difficult automobile races in the world.
The race is organized on the Arque Desert Festival Circuit and is held for 24 hours.
As early as 1925, the president of cars Ilocars Christof Aron-Shin had the idea of creating on the Arque Circuits a race of 24 hours. According to him, this race will prove to the whole world that these cars are the most reliable and resistant to the world by coming to the end of the race subjected to the extreme conditions of the desert d'Arque.
The Arque Desert Festival was born two years later, and brought together 8 teams of 6 different manufacturers and one Ilocars car won the race. From the following editions, more and more manufacturers are comparing their best cars piloted by the best pilots in the world, under very difficult conditions for machines and men. This difficulty, and this competition between drivers and manufacturers will quickly make this race legendary. The Arque Desert Festival being disputed only every 2 years makes the event even more important when it takes place. This race is still today the race that all drivers and manufacturers dream of winning
Since 1957, due to increasing demands, all crews wishing to participate in the race must qualify by taking part in the 3 qualifying races. The 45 best cars will be selected to participate in the event, the other 5 places will be awarded to the top 5 of the previous edition. Since 1973 the number of qualified cars has risen to 60.
