Astrasiápolis is the capital and largest city in the South Astrasian Federation. The city is located in the east of the country on the banks of the Rio Ave just downstream from it's confluence with the Rio Peixe. At the last census in 2015, Astrasiápolis had a population of 2,400,000 and is the centre of a metropolitan area of some 3,000,000 that stretches beyond the borders of the Distrito Nacional.
In the Florescentian language, Astrasiápolis simply means city of Astrasia.
Government and politics
The administration of the city is tied to that of the Distrito Nacional, which acts as a provincial-level government for the city, albeit with reduced powers in certain areas. The city government consists of a directly elected executive Prefeito Superior (Lord Mayor), and an elected 25-member Câmara Legislativa do Distrito Nacional (Legislative Chamber of the National District) with significant powers of scrutiny and supply over the executive.
