IZX (IZaland eXpress) is the commercial brand name for the high speed rail services in Izaland, operated by a subsidiary of Izarail, the main railway operator of the country. The high speed railway network mostly uses dedicated tracks (standard gauge) with some segments in common with pre-existing regional railway tracks. The operating speed is 280 to 320 kph on most of the alignment, with some parts allowing a 360 kph speed.

Services

There are different patterns for the trains running on the IZX network, including all stop and selected stop trains. Since the platforms in Sainðaul central station for the Kubori Island services and those to the continental areas of Izaland are separated (the first use underground platforms, the latter stay on the historical elevated station), most of the services origin at Sainðaul central station, and if one needs to travel between Kubori Island and the continental lines (e.g. Shirukami or Gaintei), needs to change train in Sainðaul.

Hukkai Line

The Hukkai line connects Sainðaul with the northernmost coastal city of Shirukami, located about 130 km north. The fastest trains allow a journey to be completed in just 25 minutes. For the first 3 kilometers the original "standard" alignment is used, thus the speed is kept low, up to 150 kmph until the trains enter the high speed line, starting from Makkeriya Signal Box. Being one of the shortest lines of the network, the maximum running speed is 265 kmph.

The services available on this line are:

  • Yangae: meaning "seagull", stops at all the stations - 2 trains per hour
  • Tokiru: meaning "wandering albatross", stopping only in Sahnajima and Shirukami - 2 trains per hour

This lines gives a rapid access to the famed ski resorts of the Aigan Alps. The lenght of the line is 241 km, and the fastest trains connect Sainðaul and Humabe Kukujai Resort in 52 minutes (with limited stops), while a all stop journey generally takes 74 minutes. The maximum speed reachable on the line is 300 kmh.

Saikai Line

The Saikai Line is the backbone of the IZX system, stretching for 570 km from Sainðaul and Warohan, respectively the first and the second most populated cities of Izaland. Even though this line does not represent the most direct connection between the two cities, as it touches all the largest cities on the west coast, it is indeed the most utilized.

IZX and SATMEX

In 2018 the SATMEX link allowed a smooth connection between Sainðaul Asunahama International Airport and the Sainðaul Kanui Airport using a special link from the Sainðaul Central Station IZX underground station and the Tōkai Main Line. 4-cars shortened IZX Z30 trainsets link directly the two airports with no intermediate stops to ease the international/domestic transit of the passengers (the train takes in 35 minutes to Osenude station, from which mobile walkways lead to the terminal of Kanui Airport). This special link is available for free to transit passengers upon the showing of a transit boarding pass.

Services on the Tōkai Main Line

With the occasion of the opening of the SATMEX, IZX and Izarail started operating some direct services from the Saikai Line (including one from the Naeryuku Shiki-Tanshuku Line), the Hukkai Line and the Kukujai Resort Line beyond Sainðaul all the way to Pewanari on the Tōkai Main Line. Each of the three lines extends four trains per hour to Hidano, of which two continue to the last stop of the line, Penawari.
