Images from the 3rd Glastian Civil War

The Glastian Civil War, widely known in Glaster as The Communist War or just 'The War', took place from 1945 to 1947 and was fought between the Republicans, who were loyal to the democratic, centrist North Glastian Republic, and the Communists, a popular group formed after a military coup, led by Winby Swalleth. The existing government won the war at a great cost, and was left as a socialist leaning government for much of the 20th century, up to unification in 1979.

The war became notable for the political division it inspired and for the many atrocities that were committed. Massacres occurred on both sides, the most notable being the Bovier massacre during the last weeks of the siege. An estimated 5000 civilians were killed by artillery and bombs in the crossfire as the North Glastian Army moved in to take the city. A smaller but significant number of killings took place over the course of July 1946, where approximately 3000 inhabitants of Wyndham and the surrounding area were killed for 'supporting the Republicans'. Immediately after the war during the unrest around Wyndham thousands more were killed, though the figures remain uncertain.

Banner of the Order of Knight Venturers

The Most Noble Order of Venturers is today the premier Order in the Wesman honours system. The King of Wesmandy is Grand Master of the Order and it is awarded to men and, since 1980, women in the single class of Knight Companion of the Order. Members are usually referred to simply as "Knight Venturer"; they can use the title "Sir" or "Dame" and place the letters "KV" after their names. The number of Companions is limited to 28, as it has been since the order's foundation in 1167 (but in the Middle Era there was an unlimited number of Knights Deputy, a rank which no longer exists).

The Most Noble Order and Brotherhood of Venturers for the Honour and Glory of God - was founded by a group of Ingerish knights in 1105 for the purpose of defending the church and faith from all forms of attack, internal or external, wherever it may be threatened. It was a espiscopal creation, owing allegiance to Church rather than to any monarch, and was from the beginning a maritime force, travelling mainly by sea and acquiring arguably unrivalled skill in naval warfare.

The order's minor modern role as an honour belies its fundamental importance in the history of Wesmandy.

The Pointing Man statue viewed from the town of Urne

The Pointing Man is a monumental bronze and copper statue located on a small island near the town of Urne in Shadze-Ma. The statue was designed and built by unknown architects. It was found lying in shallow water in the Inner Sound of Shadze-Ma in 1867 and twelve years later, in 1879, it was raised from the seabed. Between 1897 and 1898 it was lifted onto a pedestal with a giant crane in one of the most advanced engineering operations of its era.

The pedestal base it now stands on is formed by a former defensive fortification constructed during the colonial occupation of the islands by Ionadàlba. The island on which the statue stands, formerly known as Eelan Gaivikc (Sand Island) is today known as Eelan Sorkcan (Pedestal Island).

The statue depicts a bearded and naked muscular man with an outstretched arm whose hand points to a distant horizon. His other arm rests on his hip and he is sculpted as if about to step from the pedestal. The statue stands 36 metres from the foot to the top of the head. From the base of the pedestal to the top of the head, the height is 71 metros.

Symbol most frequently associated with Symvanism

Gitaenhōlyuē (from ancient Rōlese "gitenaly", "knowledge"), or Symvanism in Ingerish (from "συμβάν" ("symván"), "event, happening") is the name for the mostly obsolete but still punctually performed native religion of Kojo. The faith consolidated around the city of during the 9th century, and since then has a well-established system of three theological principles (called Shukkyubu). Symvanist Shrines and Temples can be found all over Kojo.

In comparison to monotheistic religions, Symvanism stands out by worshipping a vaguely set number of Gods (in temples), as well as spirits and mythical events (in temples). There is no sacred, all-encompassing body of text that the faith relies on, however there is a number of texts written by scholars throughout the ages that are unanimously accepted by the fellowship.

Irhoborin Refugee Settlement

The Irhoborin Refugee Settlement, near Molli, Duvar, Commonia, is one of the largest refugee camps in the world (map). Densely packed into almost exactly 5 km2 are over 150,000 people, mostly from the neighboring constituent region and city of Sarangonia, where fighting in the ongoing Commonian Civil War has been exceptionally violent.

The camp has been built in four "phases," each phase consisting of four "zones" with approximately 1000 10-person (two family) "tents" (not really tents but plywood structures on gravel floors). Thus the planned capacity for the camp was originally 160,000. With the destruction of Phase II, however, the current official capacity for the settlement is listed as 122380 persons.

The Belphenian flag

Belphenia (officially the Theocratic People's Kingdom of Belphenia (TPKB; Nihonish:ベルフェニア) is a country in southeastern Uletha, consisting of 28 prefectures and 12 states. It is a theocracy, and shares land borders with UL015 to the north, Orinoco to the east, Xerneas to the west, Pasundan-Padjadjaran to the south across the Sound of Pa, and Commonia to the southeast across the Belphenian Sea. Its capital city is Remiville. The name Belphenia is derived from the names Belphine and Beretania. This is a very rare name, and is very uncommon until Native Belphenians traveled to other countries and helped many people to recognize the name. Since 2011, Belphenia's official state religion is Great Heart, the religion that influenced Belphenia's expedition to find the truth about world events, which is why Belphenia is often referred to as "The Land of the Truth". The country is well known for establishing organizations known as Guilds, and is the major exporter of swords.

View of Torre Kapanadze

The Torre Kapanadze is a major landmark in the city of Villa Constitución, DF, in the Ardisphere. Built as a centerpiece for the Parque Centenario (of the 1914 Centennial Exposition) and designed by famed engineer and architect Jorge Kapanadze, the iron lattice observation tower has become an icon synonymous with the capital city, appearing on everything from postcards to tee-shirts to official stationary. Villanos affectionally call the tower "La Kapa" and it is the single most-visited tourist attraction in the Ardisphere.

The tower stands 333 meters in height including its spire, with the topmost observation floor at 301 meters. There are three pillars supporting the structure, each with upgraded elevators and stairs. Many tourists climb the stairs as a kind of challenge. The tower was the tallest man-made structure in the Ardisphere from its completion in 1914 until the construction of the Torre 79 in 1959. The several spacious observation floors include a food court, gift shop, the live radio broadcasting studios of the famous Ruífono network, and an artists-in-residence workshop space.

Sra Ordon-Grabb in her uniform as a member of the capital city reserve.

Elvira Ordon-Grabb (born 1811, Islandia, DS; died 1873, Jack Woss Creek, DS) was an Ardispherian politician who served as the president of the short-lived, breakaway Repúblicas Autónomas del Sur (RAS) during the Ardispherian Civil War, from 1855 until 1858.

Ordon-Grabb was born to a wealthy family of Ingerish descent which had settled in the village of Islandia, on the island called Isla Cerrada on the Ardisphere's south coast. She grew up fairly privileged and by her own account had no interest but to continue the family sea-trading business and marry her first love, a sailor and ship's mate some 10 years older than she who had the euphonious name of William Ward Walter. Her fiancé, however, was arrested for piracy in 1830 (and there is controversy to this day as to whether he was actually engaged in piracy or not, but recent research suggests that he was). Because of that, Ordon-Grabb was suddenly inspired to study law, and graduated in 1837 from the Colegio La Fourchet in Palmeras Grises, DS.

It is the country's principal political, Religious, and cultural centre, sometimes described as the Heart of Pretany. In 2014, according to the census, St. Richards had 8.3 million inhabitants. The city-state covers an area of 2,128 km² and is one of the three last remaining duchies in Pretany, along with Port Emporia and Raggleneth. St. Richards had been a small Nortian trading post since antiquity, but became a duchy occupying the north bank of the Little Turpis River with its formation during the Second Great Reformation, or the fall of the Inaran Nation and the creation of the Kingdom of Pretany, on 17 September 1373, replacing the former capital of Port Emporia. Since the formation of the St. Richards Papacy, the catholic faith and Franquese language spread throughout the globe partially due to the efforts of the Beglidere dynasty.

The centers of all branches of the federal monarchy of Pretany are located within the duchy, including the Royal Palace, presidential offices, Pretanic Federal Legislature buildings, House of Parliament, and the Royal Court. St. Richards is home to many national monuments, museums, and religious houses which are primarily situated on or around Old St. Richards Forum and Kingdom Square. The city hosts 30 foreign embassies as well as the headquarters of many international organizations, trade unions, non-profit organizations, and professional associations.

Typical QUARTA Signs.

QUARTA, or Quentinsburgh Urban Area Rapid Transit Authority, is the primary provider of mass transit/ public transportation in the Quentinsburgh, Freedemia metropolitan Area.

QUARTA was created in 1930 with the creation of the first functional subway line, then running under James Street and Mark Street in downtown Quentinsburgh. Within ten to fifteen years it had expanded to a two-branch line known as the "Red Line Subway". As the system expanded, this naming would be dropped for named lines.

Historically, QUARTA primarily ran the metro system and FCTA, or Freedemian Capital Transit Authority, ran most of the bus system. From 1935 to 1957 or so FCTA also ran a system of streetcars. However, as the QUARTA subway expanded, FCTA began to eliminate the streetcars in favor for improved bus service. In 1982 FCTA combined with QUARTA to create the modern QUARTA system.

The most well-known collection of Karolian mythology is Paavo Liipunen's Karolian Legends for Children, first published in 1907. This is a colour illustrated edition from 1929.

The mythology of the area comprising modern Karolia dates back at least to the second century BC. Although there are many different versions of individual myths and characters throughout the country, all broadly feature the same stories, gods and human actors.

The Kyori culture has its own myths in addition to the Karolian ones.

The majority of myths extant today originate from the bardic tradition of the third to ninth centuries AD. The tales were written in poetic and prose forms and seem to have been performed as entertainment at gatherings and around shamanistic rituals. It appears that performances of certain tales were thought to facilitate contact with the ancestors and reveal hidden knowledge. The bards were thus highly respected in society and could expect to be given food and shelter in exchange for their performances. Knowledge of the stories and in particular how to accompany oneself on the harp was a closely guarded secret and would only be shared with apprentices.

A section of the mostly demolished Westwall near Dreamclyffe, along the border with Garlis. The Walls of Pretany were built by King Beglidere in the early 15th century.

Kingdom of Pretany (prɛt ɑːn iː; Kalmish: Prenti, Romantian: Prétania) is a Federal Monarchy in central Uletha. Its capital city is the Duchy of St. Richards and largest city is the Duchy of Port Emporia. It borders with Lechia and Unie der Dagelanden to the northeast, Garlis and Ísztianország to the northwest, Sathria to the southwest, Mazan and Suria to the southeast. King David XII of St. Marks is the current reigning monarch, with Sean Hamilton as life-term president and Rodney Wallaver as elected prime minister. The large kingdom was founded by the combination of several distinct Petty Kingdoms over the course of 2000 years.

A feudal holdover, some of the kingdoms, specifically Inara, still maintains its own independent monarchy working in conjunction with the pretanic monarchy. One of the oldest kingdoms within the annexed lands, Antigo, rebelled in a bloody uprising and split away creating the Pretanic Faction State. The kingdom now is split with the totalitarian rogue state creating a constant threat to the civility of the remainder of Pretany. The monarchy still federally recognizes Antigo as part of the kingdom of Pretany, even though the faction state has been in a de-facto state of war with the kingdom since 1940. The borders of the Kingdom were once tightly patrolled with large ancient walls to the north, east, and south, and the Egyt Mountains to the west and northwest, keeping out the "barbaric tribes".

Pretany retains a standard of nationalism, independence of resources, and has successfully retained one of the highest GDPs in the world at $8.5 trillion. The country maintains a combination of market economy and a Pretanic welfare model with universal health care and a comprehensive social security system. Pretany has extensive reserves of petroleum, natural gas, crops, minerals, lumber, seafood, fresh water, and hydropower. The crop and lumber industry accounts for around a quarter of the country's gross domestic product, giving it the nickname of the Breadbasket of Uletha.

Geographically speaking, Pretany is currently one of the largest in size and the most populated country in Uletha, spanning the mountainous border of Sathria to the Great Rift Sound, with a population of 176 million people. In the center of the Kingdom sits Pretanic Lake, a large inland sea within a caldera, created by geological forces in conjunction with the Great Rift Sound. In ancient timesThe Petty Kingdoms of Pretany were the main gateway for most of the continent's trade routes through the Egyt Mountains at Westward Gate.
