The North Delta Nature Reserve extends to 41 sq km and lies southwest of Meldich, closing off the river delta north of Larinchem on the Firth of Hetzer.

The reserve consists of a tidal area of wetlands along the shore, which transitions into dunes or sand, ultimately closed off by woodland. The reserve also includes islands in the estuary, north of the inhabited islands of Kierenland and Negengemeten.

The reserve is not accessible by vehicular traffic. There are four access gates, along the road linking Ilmond to Meldich. The islands are not freely accessible, as they constitute breeding grounds for migratory seabirds and ground nesting birds.
