Talk:How to build Motorways

Is there a need?

I don't think that there is a need for this page. Anyone with half a brain can go to the editor and see for themselves how motorways are tagged. And some of the more ambitious types might even go to the OSM wiki and check out the tagging on any bloody rendered feature they want. Information on where to put motorways is already in OGF:Making realistic countries. In fact, here you omitted the only piece of information that might not be so obvious to a newbie, and that's how to create parallel ways (which is through a keyboard shortcut in JOSM). --Trabantemnaksiezyc (talk) 16:33, 24 September 2018 (CEST)

What is JOSM? :D I'm pretty sure Tito is going to add detailed explanations
  • how to estimate the need of motorways
  • how to find the best position to build a motorway taking the topography and pre-existing settlements into account
  • the pro and cons of different junction types, how to find the correct radius of motorway junctions
  • ... --Mstr (talk) 17:07, 24 September 2018 (CEST)
Well, yes, I will add more detail. I will explain how to make parallel ways in JOSM too. But it is not so obvious as you think. At https://opengeofiction.net/#map=12/-12.3187/17.9784 are highways which are highly unrealistic. To users which don't see that they need to do 2 ways, this might help. --Tito zz (talk) 18:06, 24 September 2018 (CEST)
Have you seen these tho https://opengeofiction.net/#map=9/-15.4709/17.1277 Whoever has drawn them needs to check this tutorial asap. --Stjur (talkOGF) 18:13, 24 September 2018 (CEST)
Curves are dangerous, straight motorways are much better, so don't draw curves!--Mstr (talk) 18:21, 24 September 2018 (CEST)
These are examples on how users completely ignore any realism on building their motorways. I guess they will be resistant to any advice. --Toadwart (talk) 18:23, 24 September 2018 (CEST)
Well the second one is actually trying to create an OGF motorway tutorial--Stjur (talkOGF) 18:28, 24 September 2018 (CEST)
Well, compared to Côte d'Or his work is amazing, fantastic, absolutely brillant, really phenomenal! We should see the positive side.--Mstr (talk) 18:40, 24 September 2018 (CEST)
