Odrava's railway schizofrenia
Do you remember back in August, I added a post about the history of railways in Drabantia? This week I wanted to clear some things up and talk more about the difficult train situation in Odrava.
In addition to being a cargo hub, Odrava has always been an important passenger hub too. The first railway station in Odrava was the station Vozovice, which was a part of the Odrava - Hrubětice horse railroad and opened in 1832. In 1842, the first regular railway station was built - that's the today's Janovo nádraží. Over the years, more railway lines joined the station - OKD (1848), BD (1851), ESŽD (1859). The city was actually lucky in that the companies always somehow agreed on using a single station, many others ended with two or more separate stations. Around 1860, Janovo nádraží was just ready for an expansion - except there wasn't space. The station is squeezed in between two hills and is surrounded by high-density mixed buildings.
When the railway to Escadia was built in 1874, a new station was built in Nové Město (at that time, there had been only a few farm houses, most of the neighborhood was built between 1890 - 1910.) The station was only connected to the harbor spur through a switchback. This obviously caused complications. BD (Banujské dráhy, see map) immediately decided to send its trains to the Nové Město station too, as many of its passengers used Odrava as a transfer point for their journey to Escadia. It even built a direct branch from Nové Město to Banujské Pavlovice.
So now there were two separate stations and attempts to connect them always failed either way because of lack of interest or money. It wasn't until 1906 when the Riegl Viaduct was built the Escadian line was directly connected to the Drabantian railway network without the need to switch engines. Since 1906, all express trains from the north started going through the Nové Město station. There were plans to connect Janovo nádraží with Nové Město with a direct side branch, but that never happened because of issues with complicated land ownership and low priority.
In 1928, the northern city pass was built, and all express trains from all directions started serving the Nové Město station, which was renamed to Odrava hlavní nádraží. Nowadays, some problems still remain. Janovo nádraží serves most commuter and regional trains, while Hlavní nádraží serves express and international trains. Transfer between the two stations is possible by a 12-minute tram ride.

I love it. I am serious. I love the way you build your stations, and love the history aswell. Therefor, i would sincerely ask you for some help in designing Loravias network (I've already laid some tracks down, and have a general idea of what railway company built which in which direction, and i just need some help in mapping and tips on the need of certain stations.
