Hi, I'm George and I have a problem with nostalgia. (here you're supposed to say "Hi, George")
More specifically, I have strong nostalgic feelings for the 00's.
It's a blur of inconsequential memories - supermarket flyers, old trains and subway cars, obscure television commercials, my elementary school, Nokia phones, pop-rock music and the 50 shades of khaki and beige all (saggy, robust) clothes bore for some reason. Avril Lavigne was relevant as ever, and so were the sk8erbois and the scene kids. Britney shaved her hair and the Czech Republic joined the EU.
I'm getting lost in the history of my country, honestly. Do you ever get that helpless feeling like your country is never going to be as complex and intricate as the real world is? One person's imagination just can't substitute the work of nature AND billions of people. Maybe the best way is not to overthink it.
After some 16 months of spending a solid portion of my free time on OGF, I sometimes feel a little tired. I have many ideas, but I'm not sure if they bring me joy anymore. I've also been crafting and diy-ing a lot recently. It's surprisingly easy to fill the blank space in your life with some nice handmade decorative candles.
Census, part 2: the critical realization
Last week I mentioned there's a new population census in Drabantia this year, the first since 2007. I also wrote it in a way that suggested there's going to major changes between the 2007 and 2017 data. For clarification, the huge change will be only in the data that's currently on the wiki. The 2007 and 2017 data I freshly invented are very similar.
After giving it some thought, I realized I'm only really unsatisfied with the city of Odrava. What a surprise, right? I have never been unsatisfied with a city before. That's not me at all.
In full panic mode I realized that especially the city center is unrealistic and has to be changed. And the most important part is that the city has to have a bigger population. For now, it's going to increase to 800,000 and we'll see how that goes.
Progress on railway 020
So this section is a series now.
Here's the news: I barely did anything. I just traced the two drawings from two weeks ago. The current length of the tracks sits still at 61 km, but it could expand up to 90 km by the end of the week (depending on how productive I am.)
Now if you excuse me, I'll be listening to my playlist of 90's and 00's music, with lights down low and my candles lit, probably crying as one does on a Monday evening.
Comments are v welcome

I'mma be soberingly real right now Eklas, a friend of mine from the late 2000s/ early 2010s died just today of cancer, and it's bringing up nostalgia of being that cringy 13 year old fur surrounded by more experienced furs who were so accepting. I also had a LONG stint on those online multiplayers where I made like 99% of my friends in childhood too, it's just a nostalgia of all the lost friendships over the years, you get that some times?
Anyway not to get too real about it, yeah there's only so much OGF you can take before you need a break, for me, I'm splitting time between this and Planet Coaster, and I feel there's some good progress on my country, slowly. Yeah take the time you need to get your house of OGF in order, think about Odrava and don't rush it if you feel your not doing enough OGF :P --Aces California (talk) 19:52, 6 November 2017 (CET)
- I am so sorry for the loss. I personally don't really get attached to people anymore after some experience, it's a kind of defense mechanism I think, but I totally sometimes wonder if say, people from elementary school even remember me and what they're doing now. Thanks for commenting! --Eklas (talk) 21:28, 6 November 2017 (CET)
Hi, George. As someone once said: "Autumn is strange stuff, anagram of Aunt Mu - but not of nostalgia". It is definitely that time of year for me as well. The leaves fall and the earth has nearly completed another rotation round the old sun. On the map, Odrava still might need some work, there are blanks, there are things that could be different. But look at what you've created west of there. Dránský Brod, Podbořice, evocative places, even nostalgic - for a place I've never even been to (discounting the fact that its not even real). Wonderful geofiction. But if you can't focus on mapping, here are some other questions: doesn't a person have to imagine the story of REAL history as much as any fictional history? are numbers in the wiki really something to worry about? is OGF meant to bring joy to its mappers? --Udilugbuldigu (talk) 23:31, 6 November 2017 (CET)
- Udi! OGF is definitely supposed to bring joy to its mappers, full stop. Or at least meet some inner twisted need for orderly creativity gone amok that is a kind of stand-in for joy. And George, as another George once said (well, titled an album actually): all things must pass. For good and for bad, I might add. Demuth (talk) 19:43, 7 November 2017 (CET)
