The Pretanic Faction State, also known as Antigo, or the PFS is a totalitarian dictatorship located in the southern former shire of Antigo in the Kingdom of Pretany. The militarized government is known for its strong ethnic nationalism, mistreatment of citizens, and a small but powerful oligarchy. The country is known for it's empty threats on its neighbors and a known nuclear threat to the civilized world. Watchful eyes from the Assembly of Nations, keeps tension and peace in balance with a mixture of diplomatic and military approaches. The PFS has and estimated population of 18 million people, with over 80% living in abject poverty. After the breakaway from Pretany, the former shire in 1942 reestablished the entirety of its pre-Kingdom Duchies as individual provinces. The Capital is Antigo City, and it's largest city being, Kontroga.

Pre-History and the Great Works of Palast

The region along and north of the Barsas River and south of Pretanic lake and the Rickorack Plateau has been found to be littered with a pottery field known as Antigo #1, dated between 3000 and 1400 BC. Remains from Rocktow Man, an early hominid were found in the construction of a private basement near Antigo City in 1901, dating 1.5 million bp. The origin of the Antigo tribe is heavily debated in the archeological community with many theories claiming origin in Mazan, or further east in Suria. The language of the Antigoans is an isolate in western Uletha, it is similar to the Wacksantan and Rag dialects that appeared in the first millennium in modern Pretany. The tribe grew quickly to have a highly structured religion and government with heavy social stratification by at least 350 BC. The tribe was not mentioned in the Athanza Cartis, and it is assumed that complete Antigoan control of southeastern Pretany was complete by 200 BC.

Antigo was noted to be the most influential of the Petty Kingdoms of Pretany by the 4th century AD and had a large control of the territory extending west to modern day Trinity (city).

The Kingdom of Antigo was known to the Kalmish missionaries as the most powerful of the tribal petty kingdoms they came across after regrettably stepping into their territory along the Barsas River. the Antigo had a strong hold on the southern regions of Pretany beyond the Egyt Mountains and were extremely aggressive to outsiders. The missionaries were nearly slaughtered by Antigoan guards that would roam the outer reaches of their territory looking to pirate and loot lost travelers. The missionaries were kidnapped and taken back to the kingdoms main city deep in the eastern Savanna lands, kept alive only to face the king for information and torture. There was a confusion that the missionaries were a group of sooth saying magicians sent by the Wacksantans due to their strange clothing. The missionaries escaped and headed north through the deep forests surrounding the Inara Basin, but only after 12 were killed in the escape. Foreigners and wanderers were not welcome to stay but for only a short time Pretany, and many went missing, which kept the rest of the continent virtually blind to the peoples and lands that extended beyond the great mountains. Due to the Antigo, by 360 AD, decades after the writings of Palast, the lands of Pretany were known only to the western half of the continent as an inhospitable maze of mountains and swamps that ended at an endless sea, a land of myth, legend, and fear. Many peoples to the west and south of the Egyts created many legends about dragons, evil kings, and demons that bred in the foggy landscape.

The tribe was known for it's sacrificial Cuppa religion and highly aggressive looting tactics. The city of Antigo had a three tiered 50 foot high temple in the center where human sacrifice would take place.

Trade Route Control

The aggressive Antigo tribe overpowered the Wacksantan tribe in the 5th century. All record of the tribe vanished and cultural markers in archeological digs turned Antigoan at that time.

The Great Reformation of Pretany started in 600 AD when the "less civilized" peoples from the west, as worded by the Antigoans, were allowed access to the exotic peoples and goods of the east. The Kingdom of Antigo allowed a handful of hopeful merchants to open a trade post at Westward Gate, a flat plateau that was used as a path to the east since the time of Ava. The trading post quickly grew into one of the largest cities in the mountainous region and the Great Pretanic trade route allowed people to travel eastward. The antigoans charged a flat tax on all goods shipped through their territory which expanded the cities of Trinity and Antigo 3-fold. The peoples of the petty kingdoms revolted when they were introduced to foreign ideas such as individualism and were begotten with a new found sense of freedom and wanderlust. The kingdom of Antigo fell sharply in population during the Seige of Antigo in 840 AD. The quickly expanding Inarans to the north had left their island home and were heavily beating down the door of the Antigoans for horded gold and goods. The Siege lasted for nearly two years until the population of the kingdom nearly starved to death from lack of traders being allowed into the city-state. The Inaran occupied Antigo has a poorly recorded history and most historians believe the Inarans had little control of the arid region other than a continued military occupation of the city itself.

Former Pretanic Rule

Antigo was known as the Shire of Antigo from the formation of the Kingdom of Pretany until 1939. In that time frame, the Pretanic Government went through many lengths to tame the "wild ones" in the Shire. The local Aristocratic system was basically a free for all of religious leaders and tribal coups that by the 16th century was complete mayhem. The monarchy did little to supress the angers and pirating that continued from the shire due to the unwillingness of troops to occupy thr arid and dangerous landscape. This situation remained the same until 1574 when the first official nationally recognized duke, Conradion Marlow stabilized the shire, even though his intentions were questionable. It is said he used the shire to enslave most of its populace and it was said he even had a harem of prostitutes in Bongdaddle Castle near Kontraga. He refused to convert the shire to the Catholic faith and the people there still denied Pretanic citizenship. The crown of Pretany, took the opposite approach and by 1590 was sending internal civil diplomats to Antigo to try and stabilize the Shire. This worked, and by 1616 more than 40% of the shire had converted to Catholicism. A task that was impossible by previous monarchs.

Cuppa, the extreme Antigoan religion, based on child sacrifice and ethnocentric pillaging of nearby villages, remained in a steady decline and by 1740 only 20% of the populace followed the faith, but still a high enough number to cause problems for the monarchy.

In 1770 King Christian of Raggleneth had gained control of the shire in the sense of political and economic stability. Antigo became a university town in the early 19th century with the opening of the Inmar School of Higher Learning, an initially crown funded school that was tightly regulated. That changed drastically and by mid century the school had begun to return it's funding and began teaching religious Cuppa doctorine as course work. This trend continued until 1911 when the school was shut down by military force after a mass grave of children aged 7-12 was found numbering in the thousands buried under a new administrative building. The uproar was tremendous by the nation of Pretany and pressure was placed on the crown to tightly regulate Cuppa being taught or practiced in the kingdom.

The Antigoan backlash was immense with Ancient Cuppa style river raids on Lybram and Trinity. Rudimentary at first, with only homes being raided by bands of 10-20 teenagers, it became increasingly terroristic and organized, with the Escallar Primary School Bombing in Clawea in 1919. The school sat on the banks of the De Barge River when an unidentified barge docked at the school's pier suddenly detonated a large amount of TNT, killing 230 school children.

The aggression was seen as domestic terrorism at the time directly aimed at neighboring non-Cuppa worshiping shires. The first domestic sanction against a shire was placed in 1920 against Antigo by the crown after allegations of state funded terrorism was backed up by evidence.

Creation of the PFS

In 1934, tensions between the disenfranchised Antigo shire headed to a boil, The shire had been in talks for ages to break away from the crown due to a higher tax in the more rural desert area of the kingdom, and major differences in religion. It was postulated by the royal census that close to 75% of the population of Antigo had converted to a particularly extreme version of Cuppa between 1885 and 1930. Local politician, John Briarmack, quickly rose to prominence as a force that could challenge the crown in St. Richards, fighting for the ethnic rights of descendants of the Antigo Tribe. It was a blatantly treasonous political attempt to mirror Duke Beglidere from the 14th century. His tactic worked with millions of Antigo citizens rallying around his seemingly impossible campaign. When word spread to the capital, the Royal National Guard sent in 2000 troops into Antigo to put a stop to the rebellion in March, 1936. They were overcome by the large militia that had formed and many were killed, or taken prisoner. While King Durgan hurried to come to a diplomatic solution with Antigo , 4,000 Antigoan militia troops with stolen royal tanks rolled deep into Rockatresston on the Pretanic Lake shore and attacked the courthouse with several rounds of ammunition, completely destroying it, and taking hostage several civilians in the city. The 29 January, 1939 siege, became known as the Attack on Rockatresston. St. Richards quickly dropped 3,000 paratroopers into the city and along with ground forces pushed the rebel forces back into the shire of Antigo. Threats of a complete attack with two stolen nuclear warheads on the capital, and the capital bombing terrorist attack in Port Battle from newly crowed supreme leader John Briarmack, led King Durgan to come to a diplomatic agreement with the newly formed faction. A massive 300 mile long militarized wall was built along the Antigo border and the Pretanic Faction State was born. The world has since condemned the faction state for brutalization of it's civilians with coercion and force, and a dictatorship that has led a starving population of 18 million people. The Pretanic Faction State militarized border is the longest militarized border in the world, guarded by the Pretanic Border Patrol, a branch of the Pretanic Army. The breakaway of Antigo was the first time since the 18th century that the country was in a de-facto civil war.

Current Situation

Antigoan Culture and Language

Antigoan culture was historically very sophisticated, and the people had a long tradition of art and architecture. Following the creation of the PFS, this creativity and self-expression was mostly suppressed. According to leading Pretanic historian Daniel Edragall, 'Antigoan culture, for the past seven decades, has never truly evolved beyond propaganda'.

The country's official languages are Antigoan and Ingerish, and while Ingerish dominates in official matters, it is only a minority language, with the majority of citizens speaking Antigoan. The language is an isolate within Uletha, with no known links to other languages.

Of ethnic groups, the vast majority of the population is native Antigoan (about 97.2%), with there being a few minority groups, all of which have been persecuted since the 1950's by the PFS Government. The largest minority group is the Syleans, who have for a long time inhabited the desert lands of southern Antigo, Trinity province in Pretany, and northern UL137. They speak a form of Mazanic, and are Shia Muslims. From 1961 onwards, the Syleans were banned from living within the city of Antigo, and so settled in the south of the country, within the Hakaka and Nuara regions. Most other groups, like West Surians, have essentially been naturalised into Antigo: of course, this doesn't make their status in society any better.

The PFS is officially an atheist state, with some claiming the Briarmack dynasty to fulfill something of a religious role in society. However, two main religions are practiced within the state.

The religion of Cuppa is known to be an extremist religion revolving around sacrifice. Many believe that Cuppalist attacks, based on the tradition of 'self-sacrifice for the greater good', gave rise to the modern practice of suicide bombing.

Of the Christic Church, it is stated that around 3.1% of the population are Catholics. Antigoan Catholicism draws all religious power from the pope in St. Richards. Many churches exist throughout the country.

The economy of the PFS is highly closed down, reflecting its isolationist government practices. Despite the country featuring a large amount of industry, the majority of citizens still live below the poverty line, and generally work in factories if urban, or on subsistence farming if rural. In the southern desert region, iron ore mining is the largest industrial force.

The government of the Pretanic Faction State is a military dictatorship, currently led by Dick Briarmack. There is a very powerful oligarchy in place that holds essentially all power over the citizens.

River Raids

River Raids have been a historical military tactic by the Antigoans since pre-history. Raided villages have been found as far west as Sathria along the Barsas River. Modern day river raids come in waves, and rarely happen during the winter months. The tactic is viewed positively by the populace and historically appropriate in the cuppa religion. The two main river systems that have been raided over the years are the Debarge River in Firgotonus, Pretany, and the Barsas River via the Rusklands River to the south. The city of Iiltun was originally platted as a Pretanic naval base in 1920 to prevent Antigoans who snuck into Pretany from reaching the Barsas River and doing damage closer to Trinity and Raggleneth. The city of Trancombe in the Moors, originally a ingerish prison camp, has been land raided by marauders carrying boats across land several times over the centuries. There have been multiple river raids into Suria over the centuries as well. Pretany is the main target of the raids due to "permanent aggressiveness". As recently as 2016 a small river raid on the city of Mealna along the De Barge River concluded when members of the Pretanic Guard shot and killed crewman of an unmarked barge floating close to homes on the south side of the river. No explosive devices were found.
