For the purposes of territory, user management and coordination, the OGF planet has been divided into regions. Each region is assigned to a different member of the admin team, that regional manager has wide discretion in how to subdivide, manage, assign, and vacate territories.
Territory applications are made using on the territory application forum, using a standard template to help guide the application. This page gives extra background information.
If you don't know which territory you want, and would like us to make a recommendation, you can also use the territory application forum, filling in as much information as possible to help us to respond.

Antarephia and Tarephia

See also: OpenGeofiction:Tarephia
The regional managers are PortCal, ParAvion and Aiki (make requests using the territory application forum).
Rules for new users' first territories
Users may apply for a territory in Antarephia or Tarephia as long as they meet the following criteria:
- They have spent at least 14 days mapping in a blue territory and can provide examples of original rural and urban mapping they have made;
- They don't have a history of rule-breaking on this website;
- They present a plan setting out the basic characteristics of the territory. The plan should include an overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country (preferably in the form of a sketch), as well as a description of the intended culture, language and political system. These continents are not directly inspired by any part of the real world, which means applications will be judged mainly based on how well they fit in with existing mapping in the area and the continental guidelines linked above.
Applications should be submitted via the territory application forum. Applications through messages will not be processed.
Rules for exchanging territories
- Users moving in are asked to follow the instructions for getting a first territory, excluding having to spend 14 days in a blue zone.
- Users moving out are asked to follow the rules set by the moderator responsible for their new territory.
- Users looking to move within Antarephia and/or Tarephia are asked to notify the regional manager, who can assist with choosing a new territory and moving existing creations. Users are also asked to create an application for the new territory.
Rules for upsizing and requesting additional territories
Requests for additional territories and upsizing current ones are judged individually, mainly based on quality of existing mapping, experience and history of behavior on the site. Users are expected to provide basic information about their plans for the requested territory or area.
Rules for downsizing and splitting territories
Downsizing or splitting up territories does not have any pre-established requirements except the approval of the regional manager.
Release of inactive territories
After 3 months of inactivity, users will be sent a reminder message. If they don't respond to it by the date specified in the message (usually 30 days later), their territories will be withdrawn. Users may also be asked to confirm their activity by uploading an amount of new mapping (as specified by the moderator) in order not to have the territory withdrawn. Territories with very little original mapping can be withdrawn immediately after 3 months of the owner's inactivity.
Users may keep their territory during a specified time of absence as long as they notify the regional manager. The maximum time a territory can be paused for is one year.
North and South Archanta

Rules for exchanging, upsizing, or downsizing territories
There are no special rules for exchanging, upsizing or downsizing territories. Send a request to admin describing the change you would like and this will be handled on a case by case basis.
Rules for additional territories

Rules for release of owned territories
Users who are inactive for more than 3 months will be notified and territories released after the given deadline, unless editing resumes.
If users are not making visible progress on existing territory, and/or cannot provide a long-term plan, they may be asked to downsize, either by subdividing their territory and abandoning part, or by moving to a new, smaller territory. Users are also expected to be flexible for ongoing rationalisation of the continent, to increase realism.
Wide latitude will be granted for leaves-of-absence in the event these are negotiated ahead of time.
Beginner
The regional manager for the Beginner territories is wangi. Applications should be submitted via the territory application forum, new users should first request a wiki account. These territories are small, intended as an opportunity to build up mapping experience. They are not for long-term mapping and are considered "non-canon" within the OGF world. The New User Practice and Demo Zone can be mapped in without permission. Mapping must be focussed and independent - you are not collaborating with other mappers across territory boundaries. Rules for new users' first territoriesNew users may request their first territory after a short period of mapping in the BG01 New User Practice and Demo Zone. Territory expansions and second personal territory applications (that is, territories in addition to one personal and up to two collaborative territories) in general are judged on a case-by-case basis. As a guideline, users applying for second territories need to have a considerable portion (>50%) of their current area mapped in at least medium detail as well as several cohesive and significant example of high-detail mapping. For the expansion of a territory by annexing parts of adjacent, unclaimed territories (<50% of that unclaimed territory), users should have mapped an area of equivalent size in their first territory in at least medium detail. When asking for an additional territory or an expansion, please use the same forum process as when applying for a first territory.

Release of inactive territories
After 90 days of inactivity, users will be sent a reminder message. If they don't respond to it by the date specified in the message (usually 30 days later), their territories will be withdrawn. West Uletha
Loading map... |
The current regional managers of West Uletha are: Bixelkoven and Alessa. Before requesting a territory, it is wise to read the site rules, and to take a look at the continental guideline page. Users will find more info about West Uletha there, which can help them with their territory planning - however we're also open for other proposals, should you have any.
It also features a large amount of collaborative projects, which you can find the list of at OGF:List of collaborative projects#Uletha. |
Rules for requesting territories
West Uletha is split into 17 sectors (as shown on the map to the right), numbered from 1-17, which designate areas with cultural similarities. These can be identified in the first two digits of West Ulethan territory codes (for example: UL01a is a territory in sector 01, the South Hesperic Coast region).
When requesting a territory, users should consider the following:
ᙾ - Long-standing and highly active users will be treated specially. More information below. |
Territory applications should be submitted via the territory application forum, which provides a ready-to-use template. You may also request portions of existing territories, providing a sketch of the requested border changes.
When creating a territory application, please provide visual plans and detailed information about the territory you wish to create. Here are two examples of good territory applications: Link 1 and Link 2. |
If a proposal fits in West Uletha and the user meets the requirements, it will be accepted directly. If not, it will be followed by counter proposals from the regional manager.
Rules for additional territories
If you wish to expand your work area you may:
- Request an unclaimed territory adjacent to your current one, expanding it.
- Request a new territory within West Uletha. If you wish to request a territory in a different continent, please refer to that continent's guidelines.
Territory expansions are done the same way as standard territory requests, via the territory application forum.
Users need to have mapped out a good amount of their current territory (or territories) before requesting additional territories. A rule of thumb is to have users fill at least 50% of all territories they own at the time of the request. Whether the requirements are met is to be decided by the regional manager and the decision is purely subjective. Rapid requesting of new territories will not be allowed.
Rules for exchanging and downsizing territories
If you want to exchange your territory or move it to West Uletha you need to follow the instructions given in the territory request segment above. If you have moved recently relative to the date of requesting, we will not approve your request.
If you feel like you own too much territory, you can request to downsize it. You may also move to a different territory of smaller area size. This request will almost always be accepted.
Rules for inactivity and territory withdrawals
Users that have provided barely any or no map edits within 5 months will have their territories be marked for withdrawal, and the user notified about their inactivity. Following another month of inactivity, the territory will be released.
Users failing to keep up their activity can also be asked to downsize their territories in some cases. Long-standing and highly active users will enjoy a level of leniency and room for compromises in respect to their lengthy commitment to the OpenGeofiction project, but are not exempt from having their territories withdrawn.
If a user has already been notified once due to inactivity, the next time their territory is marked for withdrawal will be the final marking and warning before the withdrawal is finalized.
Rules for private collaborative projects
Alongside standard community collaborative projects, which are public for everyone, groups of users may also request to start private collaborative projects. All users requesting such a territory become the project's coordinators. These projects are not open for all other users to join, instead they need permission from the project coordinators in order to map there.
The main difference between private and community collaborative projects is that private collabs are subject to the withdrawal policy. If no coordinator/user is active in the territory, it will be marked for withdrawal as any other territory.
